PARODY For the third year in a row, we returned to our base ready for battle. This year was going to be different. We be- gan the year by being promoted to Corporals in a ceremony of rings. We got to wear civilian clothes and were giv- en a luncheon in the Officers’ Club. Afterwards, we all piled into Corporal Weezer’s tank and headed to the bay for some afternoon recreational activities. One who didn’t participate in this, nor in any of our activities was Corporal Eileen Fallon. During all these times of R R, Corporal Fallon was busily perfecting her fighting tactics on the tennis court. All of her dedication finally paid off for her when she won the highest award in her racquet, the NJSIAA State Championship. This year a new officer appeared on the base. He turned out to be such a forceful character that we couldn t help but nickname him Tank. As a Christmas present for our good behavior, we were allowed to have a Christmas Ball at the Dorian Manor. While there, with little warning, we were involved in a British Invasion. Everyone fought back except Corporal Newsholme, who wasn’t in a fighting mood. He and Ralph decided to take cover in the latrine. Chaplain Carol J. decided that our minds should equal the condition of our bodies, so we went on retreat. We had a rip-roaring good time when we carried Corporal Klimo outside the bunkhouse on his mattress; when Corporals Chedder and Sauce both fit into Colonel Gloss’ skivvies at the same time, and we never DID find out what happened to Plato's Retreat. Once again we trudged off to Seaside Heights, where everyone got a lot of exercise running back and forth from the beach to JR’s. This time we all anticipated going back to camp in two months because we were going to be promoted to Sergeant Seniors. Senior Year 1981-82 September came and we were excited about returning to boot camp. On September 11, we walked through the doors as Sergeant Seniors. All but Sergeant Durski — who skated through the door, up the ramp, down the corridor, and whizzed into homeroom. We started off the new year by making a few changes; such as moving the location of our officers’ club from the Bay to Horseshoe Road, and by establishing the Wednesday afternoon social club. General Gavron also resurrect- ed a few old traditions such as bringing back an occasional Friday night dance. On the football scene, our battalion continued to be superior to our rival, Hoffman, beating them for the fourth straight year. We wish to continue our history, but it is important for us to send this biography to headquarters before the en- emy gets their hands on it. They are over-running the front lines and we don’t know how much longer we can hold out. No one really knows what the future holds - only time will tell. All we can say is that we had a great four years at St. Mary’s. It is time for us to say good-bye As the class of 82. We’ve had good times We’ve loved these years And we are hoping you will too. 5

CLASS Please allow us to introduce our class We’re not a class of wealth or fame, We’ve been around for four great years, Gone through our traumas, experienced pain. We’re the class of Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Two, So here is our history written just for you. In the following accounts of the past four years names have been altered slightly to incriminate the guilty. Freshman Year — 1978 79 Every Freshman dreads initiation, but not us. We came to school Freshman year fully prepared, dressed in our stretch knit pants, and our grammar school socks and shirts. The Officers gave us a warm welcome. They greeted us on Orientation Day with a 21 gun salute aimed horizontally. Comrades Phillips and Coyle, who loved Freshmen, were the first to pull the trigger. The older enlisted students also helped to make our first few days at St. Mary's memorable. They offered their assistance by selling us elevator passes, floor diagrams, and tickets for use of the swimming pool on the fourth floor. As we grew more accustomed to the ways of the school, we soon were introduced to biological warfare in the Mess Hall. Our preliminary training in hand to-hand combat was demonstrated to us by the Donut Brothers, Ferret DeWoofer and Michael Fitzrodent in the great donut war. As the war of continuing education wore on, several important battles were waged. Mary McBraids struggle as the first girl to be on the Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team was surmounted with her first goal. During this particular bat- tle, as in all great wars, our troops were involved in some heavy romances. Some of the famous couples were, BBS and Kathy, Mannix and Sandy, Bones and Es, Weezer and Tessy, and who could ever forget the history making ro- mance between Fitzrodent and Mary Chimney. As June rolled around we declared a cease-fire, and General Gavron gave the troops two months R R. Sophomore Year 1979-1980 September came, and the cease-fire was broken. General Gavron had no alternative but to call back the troops to continue the battle for truth, justice, and the American way. The battles became more involved this year. Spies plotted an assassination attempt in Chaplain Tighe’s religion ciass, and underhanded propaganda was experienced on the Crazy Chrissie and Freaky Sandy Shows. In an important mission, Colonel Ryan led the raid to the Bronx where we used gorilla warfare tactics. There were no casualties on our side, but Private Noble shot down a fighter duck that was trying to sneak behind enemy lines. We also had more outbreaks of lunchtime terrorism; in the halls, Eddie Van Halen, Mr. Dudy, and Denso Hartigan accidentally pushed their comrade-at-arms through the extension corridor window. Also, when the enemy fire bombed Private Silva’s locker, and in the mess hall, when the rations became inedible, we collaborated in several heavy artillary food fights. During lulls in the fighting, we received a one-day pass to Seaside Heights. Private Newsholme joined some locals in the native sport of surfing. During this year we also had a visit from Congressman Jim White’s U.S.O. Campaign committee. June rolled around and, as last year, the fire was ceased. We were again relieved of active duty for two months. Junior Year 1980-81 4
