This is the first time a staff has attempted to cover a full year at SMHS, and to make this transition, we included spring events of the 1969 year. The Zodiac became a sign of the times this year in fashion and entertainment. We used these ancient symbols to arrange class sections - not because we believe in astrology, but because Zodiac symbols repre- sent a search for identity. Our 1970 Purple and Gold is now yours to treasure. 2 Joyful limes and thoughtful moments, as well as grammar and literature, are memories of senior English classes To Roger Huffman, a teacher who could listen and understand, we dedicate The 1970 Purple and Gold. The chief productions each year are the class plays, whose casts come from the classes produc- ing. Stage crews usually come from the sponsoring class, but help is also drawn from dramatics classes, Thespians, and the Pleasants County Players. Play production is also a means of creative expres- sion, and each year many students become involved. Lighting, sound effects, properties, settings, painting flats, publicity ... all give students the opportunity to experience theatre first-hand, as well as hours of work and fun.
