Skip Da ournal Wednesday, April 25 We are off! It's seven-twelve raining and Oh! this darn rough road. We are only going 45 miles per hour. I The windshield wipers are getting a good run. Not - much traffic. It looks as if we 're the only birds on the road. Tom, Gail, and Rosy are arguing about state gas tax. We stopped to clean the windshield off. Gail just let us know that he forgot his class ring, only in some fancy language. Tom just got comfortable when a car got between us, he yelled at. the lady to get her old crate off the road. just passed a turkey farm and several mines.' -Near Lovilia the road was under construction. We had to brake in a hurry and everything slid down from the back window. Mutt said All I can say is, it sure cleaned off the back shelf. ' Boys waved at three little school girls. Big thrill! A Ford .passed us like a S. streak. Tom yells ok. Daddy-O, do you want to drag. Drove under a train of 56' cars. Sign said 27 miles to Missouri State Line. ,Took a picture of Tom sleeping in the corner. We made our first stop for a coffee break. We crossed the Chariton River. Several men were spray painting it. Mutt thought one man had a green face. Gail is relaxing with his feet in the windshield. We're there. Welcome to Missouri, Gail jabbed Rosy in the ribs and woke her up with a jerk. After riding a while the boys came to the conclusion that Missouri must have a better conservation commission than Iowa. We are in Kirksville now. Every little jointghas a sign Fireworks and Liquor . We are in La Plata and we decorated our car by letting pin-k streamers out the windows. Real Crazy! Every car simply gawks at us. We stopped at a roadside park for lunch, real neat! We took some pictures then started on our way again. We noticed several old Colonial homes, true southern style, on our way to Columbia. 'We went to jefferson City. We went to the capital and the legislation was in session. A man took us up to the balcony and the Speaker of the House in- troduced us to the members. They wanted us to sing our state song but we didn't. We went through the museum and then were on our way. Oops! Upset the potato chips. tWe passed a sign that said Dam Club QBagnellj. We were wondering what kind of a club it was. We made it to the Ozarks: it sure is pretty. We have a beau- tiful cabin called Edgewater Beach . Ours has two big beds and one rollaway, nice den with TV bath and a kitchen. The inside is all knotty pine. We then decided to go on a speedboat ride. Brand new boat'S7, 000. Wow! What a ride. We weaved around for 7 miles and our hair was absolutely straight. Back to the cabin to freshen up and go out to eat. Of course the boys were ready in a jiffy, before all the girls . could even wash. ' Theydressed in Mr. and Mrs. Bleakly's cabin as they didn't want a cabin, they wanted to sleep in the car. We ate at Campbell Lakeshore Dining Room. We headed for the drive-in after supper. We saw Reap The Wild Wind. Back to the cabin for a party. Dick got some pop. We had cake, candy, peanuts, apples and Pepsi of course. Sat around the fireplace, took pictures and then each departed in their direction for bed. We took some goofy pictures andthen went for a Midnite Stroll. Near the edge of the lake is a romantic-looking patio, especially with the lights in the background. Back to the cabin and tried to get some sleep. Tom and Gail came ,to the door to say goodnight and swipe a pillow. First big day over and - everyone still wound up but tired. - ' -Mir Y, - YA R ' A .
