Compliments of FRISKEL UNDERTASING, Frontenac an DECKER INSURANCE All aboard for a great adventure CLASS OF 1959 ln September '55, forty freshmen boarded a chartered academic bus and adopted the slogan Fifty- nine or bust. Our first driver, who incidentally being found so capable was kept on for four years, was Lee Cronister. He was assisted by Dennis Purdon. Recorder of highlights was Joyce Monsour and Richard Smith collected the money for gas. This, was under the ex- pert supervision of Sister M. Teresita. Among its passengers were five new faces: Richard Cicero, Pat Fager, Susan Simoncic, Frances Stahl, and Mary Bess Hainline. This passenger list claimed many celebrities. They were: annual attendants, Kay King and John Hamilton: May Queen attendants, Glen Gilmore and Nikki Banke: Cheerleader, Susan Simoncic: football players, Benelli, Pasini, Corsini, R. Smith, Scavezze, Quinn, Zigmund, Cronister, Hamilton and Lundberg: cagers, Corsini, Pasini, Quinn, and Scavezze: base- ball players, Zigmund, Machetta, and Corsini, As we completed this our freshman year we had reached the first milestone on our trip. Still driving in '56 was Lee Cronister, under the sponsorship of Sister M. Cyrilla. He was aided by Mike Quinn, Virginia Elliott, and Kay King as relief driver, mileage recorder and keeper of the funds. We lost one passenger at the first stop fRichard Smithl, but gained three new ones fMaureen Miller, Karen Keller, and John O'Ma1leyD. Many of our passengers were active participants: Richard Cicero in the newly-formed Mad- riga 1: Nikki Banke as Cheerlea der: and Rosemary Col- born as Homecoming attendant. Members of the champ- ion football team were: Corsini, Hamilton, Fager, Zigmund, Scavezze, Cronister, Benelli, Lundberg, Quinn, Gilmore, and O'Malley. Seen on the hardwoods were: Corsini, Scavezze, and Zigmund. Running the bases were: Zigmund and Quinn, while Pat Fager joined the Golden Glove men. King and Hamilton captured the big prize by being dubbed the annual royalty. Zigmund and L. Cronister were initiated into the Thespians, Socially we sponsored the Halloween dance. As May '57 came and went we had rounded the second major bend in the road of our journey. Still at the wheel in our junior year was Cronister, McNally taking over in emergencies, Keller taking notes while King was chief custodian of the funds. This year's trip was sponsored by Sister M. Vincentia. Four new names appeared on the passenger list. They were: Jo Marie Burgar, Pat Epple, Dale Starchman, and Morris Swan, while four others had been removed: John Casterman, Pat Fager, Merle Pasini, and Delores Theys Among our renowned passengers we had: gridiron men and M.B.L. champs, Hamilton, Scavezze, Zigmund, Quinn, Corsini, Cronister, Machetta, Benelli, and Vietti: basketball champs, Scavezze, Corsini, Quinn, and Zigmund: Burgar as Cheerleader: Monsour as ma- jorette: Colborn again as Homecoming attendant: Quinn and Martinous as Marian candidates: Madrigal singers, Keller, Wettstein, Monsour, Cicero, Zigmund, Starchman, and Machetta: Thespians, Monsour, Mc- Nally, Keller, S. Cronister, and C. Buset. Girl and Boy's State representatives, Keller, L. Cronister, Quinn, and Vietti. Socially we proudly boasted the Mock and Ju-nior-Senior banquet. Finally as we reached the last stretch of our jour- ney Cwith Cronister still Chief navigatorj we received a real set back, the death of one of our most beloved passengers, Freddie Benelli. Other cancellations in this last year were: Sherry Simoncic and Pat Epple. Getting on at the last stop were two more celebrities: Carolyn Scales and Ed Keearns. Checking the occupations of the passengers we found: champion football players, Cronister, Corsini, Machetta, Lundberg, Zigmund, Scavezze, Starchman, Vietti, Quinn, and Hamilton: ball bouncers, Corsini, Scavezze, and Zigmund: Thomas and Vietti were annual royalty: Monsour was drum major: Burgar and Martinous were cheerleaders: Colborn was Homecoming queen: Watson and Buset, co-editors of the Marian: Keller, editor of the Marian- ette with McNally as assistant: Watson, prefect of the Sodality: Buset was May Queen, with Colborn and Mc- Nally as attendants: Cronister was president of the band as Buset and Simoncic held the posts of librarian and secretary-treasurer respectively: Keearns held the baton as student director: McNally, Pep Club prexy: Corsini, Quinn, Scavezze, and Cronister were voted most val- uable on the gridiron. Cronister and McNally were representatives on the Student Court which was created in '59, Quinn was Thespian prexy with S. Cronister as secretary. Early in May we donned our sports wear for a week at Eureka Springs under the sponsorship of Mon- signor Stremel. On May 31, 1959, we reached our destination under the direct guidance of Sister M. Linus. After a most profitable trip we bade our fond farewells to all our fellow passengers and went our separate ways but al- ways uppermost in our minds is that we shall always be tied together under the title The Class of '59.
