Svvntnr 011211111 itmtnrg On September 8 1950 twenty two green freshmen entered St Mary s Hlgh S1ster M Rosal1a was our sponsor We elected B1ll Braun pres1dent Sally Patterson as VICC pres1dent tW1H Kathy Patterson as treasurer and V1Ck1 S1monc1c secretary Rose Moeder was cheerleader from the freshman class Sally was also elected pres1dent of the Junlor Act1v1ty Club w1th George Van Becelaere as Veep and V1ck1 as secretary Our candldates for the annual were George VanBecelaere and V1Ck1 S1monc1c For the May Crown1ng AIICC Cabod1e and Jerry O Connell were our representat1ves Out for football that f1rst year were Franc1s Lac1na Jerry O Connell Charles Fr1end Gary Krus1ch Roy M1ller George VanBecelaere and Frank Falcone Basketball found us w1th three hopefuls on the court Roy M1ller George Van Becelaere and Jerry O'Connell Then came that dreadful day we had wa1ted for INITIATION DAY' Wlth burlap sk1rts for the g1rls and long stock1ngs w1th short pants for the boys w started the day Then w1th crles of AIR RAID and armed w1th tubes of l1pst1ck the Sen1ors met us It 1S best merc1fully to draw a curta1n over what followed We started our second year w1th four new members Maur1ce Lundburg Bob Be1tz1nger Ilene Snyder and Mary Al1ce Burwell S1ster M Isabel was our sponsor Dur1ng the year e1ght members dropped out Roy M1ller Bob Belt z1nger Terry West Frank Falcone Frank Loom1s Rose Moeder Maur1ce Lundburg and N1ck Meyer The annual cand1dates were V1Ck1 S1monc1c and Jerry O'Connell who won second place We won the magaz1ne dr1ve Dur1ng the year we sponsored the Freshman Sophomore round and square dances each month Our representatlves on the football team were Charles Fr1end FIanC1S Laclna and Jerry O Connell wh1le 1n basketball we had George VanBecelaere B111 Braun and Jerry O'Connell At the homecom1ng our V1Ck1 Sue S1monc1c was an attendant to the queen V1Ck1 was also cheerleader from our class ln September 1952 we entered the .Tumor room to meet S1ster M Luke who was to be our sponsor For class off1cers we elected Sam S1mpson as pres1dent w1th Joe Morando as Veep Sally Patterson as treasurer and Kathy Patterson as Pat Phye and J1m Scholes were new members of the class th1s year We lost Donald Brown and Pat Phye who moved away We won the annual contest and B111 Braun and V1ck1 S1monc1c re1gned Just before they left us at the semester to become m1ghty senlors Zoe Ann Towner was our attendant to the Homecomln Queen J1m Mann1ng and Sam S1mpson attended Boys' State and Sharon Sk1bb1e G1rls State On the football f1eld th1s year we had Jerry O Connell Donald Brown Gary Krus1ch Charles Fr1end and FTBHCIS L.ac1na On the basketball court we had Sam S1mpson George VanBecelaere and B111 Braun At the .Tumor Sen1or Banquet and Prom we carr1ed out the theme of Our Lady The Sp1r1t of St Mary s Th1s year marked the S1lver Jub1lee of Father Alex G Stremel our pastor and super1ntendent The State Sodahty Rally was sponsored by St Mary s Sodal1sts and was held at K S T C W1th S1ster M Paula as sponsor we started our last year 1n h1gh school N1ck Meyer returned and Charles Garr1son Jo1ned our ranks Not w1th us were Mary AIICE Burwell and Donald Pope As you can see 1n th1S MARIAN we won the annual contest agaln w1th Kathy Patterson and Gary Krus1ch as the Royal Pa1r Th1S year we sponsored the In1t1at1on Homecomm and Chr1stmas dances as well as the Coronat1on Ball We went out as Care Caro lers at Chr1stmas t1me .I1m Mannmg competed 1n the Amer1can I..eg1onOrator1cal contest Charles GHTTISOH won the F1re Prevent1on Poster Contest at St Mary's and rece1ved a tr1p to the Amer1can Royal at Kansas C1ty For football we had Co capta1ns Lac1na and VanBecelaere w1th KIUS1Ch Frlend O Connell and Morando On the hardwood were Capta1n VanBecelaere w1th Manmng and S1mpson For four years we had worked and saved for our sen1or tr1p It 15 an unfor gettable exper1ence probably the last t1me we shall ever be together for a week as a class group for after the tr1p comes class n1ght and Commencement Flnally the last chapter of our class h1story 1S expressed 1n the s1mple statement We graduated May Z3 1954 To St Mary s pr1ests S1sters and students we the class of '54 s y Go d bye and God bless you ' ll o '- 0 - ' . 1 1 , , 1 1 . l l 1 1 1 . , 1 1 ' 1 1 , . 1 I .1 1 I 1 1 1 . , , 3 .Y ! 9 .
