Starting us out on our high school career was Sister Clarissa, with Sister Edwina as principal. Walter Mahanes was presiding officer over our class meetings, Jack Sell was veep, taking the minutes was Francis Menghini, and collecting our quarters, Virginia Lero. New additions to our 8th grade graduating class were: Betty Drenik, Virginia Lero, Iona Ross, Norma Stultz, Tom Avery, Tom Hribar, Robert Betizinger, Carolyn Brunet, Barbara Kluth, and Barbara Meyer. We lost Tom Avery in the mid-term shuffle. In October and November, Pete Monsour, Jim Van Becelaere, Francis Menghini, Mickey Manfre, Art Scavezze, and Walt Mahanes represented us on the gridiron. The first of monthly Freshmen-Sophomore parties was held in October. Joanne Krumsick launched the first of her four years of cheerleading. December saw Jim Van Becelaere, Scavezze, and Monsour playing basketball for the Panther Bees. At the Coronation Ball in January, Jack Sell and Alma Zigmund were our annual candidates. Mary Elizabeth Cronister represented our class in the February school carnival as candidate for penny queen. In March, Father Francis Broderick, O.S.B. , conducted our spiritual retreat. April and May found us no longer green freshmen but ready to ascend to the top floor as SOPHOMORES Our Sophomore year found us minus Bob Beitzinger, but Eulila Crain kept our number the same. Class officers were Art Scavezze, President: Mickey Manfre, vice-president: Joanne Krumsick, secretaryg and Jim Van Becelaere, treasurer. Sister Paula became principal and Sister Lucille took over the reins of the wise fools Qsophomoresy. Hribar, Benelli, Manfre, Menghini, Mahanes, Monsour, played on the third consecutive MBL Championship team. Krumsick again was voted cheerleader. Virginia Lero was voted attendant to the football queen. On the hardwoods were Scavezze, Monsour, Menghini, and Jim Van Becelaere. Bonnie Bevans left at mid-term to join the Juniors. Art Scavezze and Joanne Krumsick were Marian contestants. Father Joseph Buckley, S,M. , from New Orleans, was our retreat master. Corncob pipes and red corduroy hats became hot fads of the sophomore boys, while the end of the year brought with it the first of annual slumber parties held at the Frakes twins house for the girls of our class. , IUNIORS With many plans and a lot of work ahead of us we entered room eleven with Sister Simeon seated behind the desk. Sister Paula was again guiding us as principal. The office of president was filled by Carolyn Brunet, with Pete Monsour as vice-president, Eddie Quinn taking down the minutes and Virginia Lero controlling the purse-strings. Margaret Shaw reported the news of the class to the Marianette. Eddie Quinn and Frank Benedict were our new additions while Eulila Crain, Jack Sell, and Mary Elizabeth Cronister left St. Mary's. Barbara Kluth left us at mid-term to join the Seniors of 1952. Out for football were Scavezze, Hribar, Quinn, Menghini, Longerot, Monsour, and Manfre, Virginia Lero was chosen attendant to the football queen for the second time, and Joanne Krumsick led cheers again. On the basketball roster were Scavezze, Quinn, Menghini, and Manfre. Mickey Manfre, who was man of the year in annual sales, and Joanne Krumsick were our candidates for King Marian and Queen Marianette. Retreat master was Father Ronan Dowd, C.P, Carolyn Brunet and Virginia Lero were elected high school Sodality officers from our class. Joanne Krumsick was our representative at Girls' State and Pete Monsour and Walt Mahanes went to Boys' State. After much work, we successfully sponsored our J unior-Senior banquet in May--Space Flight '52 was our theme. SENIORS In our senior year we had Sister Paula as our sponsor. With the gavel in hand Francis Menghini was president, with Eddie Quinn taking over in his absence. Art Scavezze was secretary and handling the money was Mary Ann Frakes. The class increased with the coming of Virginia Warmbrodt, J .E. Friend, Vicki Simoncic, and Bill Braun--the two latter transferring from the Junior Class. Those who helped make our football season a success were Quinn, Scavezze, Menghini, Benelli, Manfre, Hribar, Longerot, Friend, Monsour, B. Van Becelaere, Bendict, Horgan, and Mahanes. Hribar and Quinn were co-captains for the season and Virginia Lero again represented our class in the fooball royalty, this time as queen. Joanne Krumsick was cheerleader for her 4th consecutive year. Scavezze, Quinn, Menghini, Benelli, Mahanes, Horgan, Braun, Benedict, Hribar, were our representatives on this year's basketball team. Marian contestants were Pete Monsour and Norma Stultz. Vicki Simoncic and Bill Braun won the annual contest in the first semester as Juniors. The school paper was published under the co-editorship of Margaret Ann Shaw and Carolyn Brunet. Co-editors of this X953 Marian were Mickey Manfre and Patty Ann Frakes. Leading our Sodality were Ptefect, Pete Monsour, Vice-Prefect, Joanne Krumsick, Secretary, Carolyn Brunet, and Treasurer, Walter Mahnes. Our last retreat was held during Lent. This year we sponsored the Christmas dance and the Coronation Ball. One glorious week in May was spent in the Ozarks on our Senior trip. Class night was held on May 22. On Sunday morning, May 24, we said a fond farewell to St. Mary's High School. But our class history would be incomplete unless we add that even though we graduate we shall carry with us the love of Our Lady, the Spirit of St. Mary's, as long as we shall live. 69 MOTEL and BOSINIO HARD WARE KLOBASSO HAMBURGERS APPLIANCE AND LUMBER--Arma 44 '14 1 ,M-1 .-, 1,5 mf Its!!
