CRIPE - Town Talk Bread , 521 ae Art Scavezze uiilihi' ffillilf ,,. ,, John Kazmler Skl CLHSS HISTUHU The fall of '47 found 24 little green Freshies hopefully and anxiously entering the Freshman room. There at the desk sat Sister M. Flavia, our homeroom teacher, who kept one comer of the room vacant for brightly colored bird houses. We found that high school had many things to teach us. The algebra class was one we found particularly different. Sister Clarissa, who taught the class, can verify that fact. Under the direction of Sister Linus, we learned to appreciate the Latin Language and Roman customs. Ted Lacina was chosen class president, with Rita Menghini as vice-president, Kathleen McKee as secretary, and Bob Rinehart as treasurer. When the Annual Contest came around, Kathleen and Tedwere pickedto represent the Freshman Class as King and Queen candidates. Five Boys went out for football- -Deruy, Crespino, Lacina, Rinehart, and Yoakam. Kathleen was chosen by the squad as Football Queen Attendant. Out for basketball were Krumsick, Lacina, Rinehart, Garrison, Yaokam, and Crespino. The Freshmen did their share of enter- taining that year, too. They put on the big Valentine's Dance. Then came '48 and we were Sophomores. Sister M. Eva was the homeroom teacher of 22 students. We lost Jim Yaokam, who answered the call of the West and went to Wyoming. Also DorothyCastagno went to California. John Deruy was class pres- ident, Jerry Cronister, vice-president, Jack Wilson, secretary, and Mary Margaret Tierney, treasurer. One interesting class that year, at least for the girls, was the cooking class. The senior boys across the hall in Chemistry class were on the re- ceiving end of several kinds of pastries made by the girls. Out for football were Krumsick, Crespino, Lacina, and Rine- hart. Krumsick and Crespino were our lone representatives for basketball. Jerry Cronister and Freda Martinous were chosen candidates for Annual King and Queen from the Sophomores. Our social event that year was the successful Halloween Dance. The year of 1950 found us on top floor as Juniors, under the guidance of Sister M. Pau1a.Our class consisted of 27 members. Jack Cattelino, Vera Rome, Al Regan, and Cecilia Radell were newcomers to our class. Jim Yoakam and Marilyn Manning re- turned once more. Our class officers were Kathleen McKee, president, Jack Cattelino, vice-president, Dona Zuech, secre- tary, and Bob Krumsick, treasurer. Kathleen was chosen to be one of the cheerleaders. Out for football were Rinehart, Cronister, Lacina, Crespino, Krumsick, and Garrison. Kathleen was again chosen to be Foot- ball Queen Attendant. Our basketball representatives for the Jun- iors were Crespino, Krumsick and Yoakam. For Annual King and Queen candidates, John Deruy and Dona Zuech were the representatives for the Juniors. The St. Mary's Triple Trio was organized by some of the girls for the purpose of carolling at Christmas time for CARE packages. That year we originated the Mock Coronation Ball--our version of Sadie Hawkins Day. Our Valentine's Dance was very well attended. -Spring found the Juniors preparing for the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom, which was carried out as an under-water theme, A Koral Kingdom. Finally our Senior year began, with Sister M. Clarissa as our sponsor. The first of school found us proudly displaying our class rings. A short time later Sister Clarissa moved to another school, and Sister M. Rosalia took over the task of managing us. That fall the Seniors took a couple of trips--one to Noel, Mo., and the other to Farlington Lake, with Father Pepe as chaperon. Our leaders for the year were Bob Rinehart, president, Frank Crespino, vice-president, Agnes Horgan, secretary, and Ted Lacina, treasurer. John Deruy brought fame to the Senior Class by being chosen President of the Wichita Diocesan Sodality Council. Agnes Horgan represented our school in the Apologetics contest in Wichita. The school paper was successfully published under the co-editorship of Mary Colleen Ahrens and Rita Zig- mund. The FootballQueen, chosen by the squad, was Jeanne Krum- sick. The co-captains were Ted Lacina and Frank Crespino. Other Seniors on the team were Bob Krumsick, Don Garrison, Jerry Cronister, Jack Cattelino, and Bob Rinehart. Basketball season rolled around, with Bob Krumsick as captain. Don Gar- rison and Frank Crespino were the other Seniors on the team. This year we sponsored the Christmas dance. The Triple Trio was again organized to carry on the Care Carolling. We won the Annual contest, making Mary Margaret Tierney and Bob Krumsick Queen Marianette and King Marian Xi. They were crowned at the formal Coronation Ball held on January 19. Our retreat, under the direction of the Rev. Joseph W. Buckley, S. M. , was held the last week of January. March brought the beginning practices of the Senior Play, Dotty and Daffy , withCarol Frakes and Joan Starr in the lead- ing roles. It was presented under the direction of Father Stremel on April 3 and 4, April found us under deep piles of books get- ting ready for the final exams, which were given early in May. May 21 was Class Night, which was followed by the Senior Trip to the Ozarks. On Sunday morning, May 27, the Senior said their farewell to St. Mary 's as students. Thus closed four important years in the history of the Class of 1951. 37 WA, 1 -1 hw ws 'na .fffffgh My -1 iff Vi' :uv 0' 4 Wm ......... -pp- ,es vw, Tw? K W5 gwgwkfww.
