To start us out on our high school career, we chose John Benage as pres- ident, Keith Jones, vice-president, Elizabeth Sterbenz, treasurer and Linnaea De ipen, secretary. We prided ourselves on two new additions to the class, Regina Hutsey, from Frontenac and Jim Ryan who left us in the grades. At the semester we lost John Macek, who attended another school, Elizabeth Ster- benz, who moved to Kansas City, and Linnlaea Deppen, who went to Salina. Their offices were then filled by Bob Wilbert and Kathryn Bettega. Mike McKee, Bob Wilbert, Kelth Jones, Jim Ryan and Charles Patterson went out for football and we were repre- sented in basketball by Ryan, Wilbert, and Jones. Betty Lero helped lead the team on to victory by her cheering. Connie Wallace and Betty Lero were responsible for the freshmen column as class reporters. Keith Jones and Norma Holland were our annual candidates. Our religious activities were led with the KSSU Leadership held in Pittsburg and a re- treat given by Father Allen, C.P. With the coming of May, we found we were no longer green freshmen but .... JUNIORS This eventful year was under the sponsorship of Sister Berchmans. Duties for the year were asigned to Bob Kazmierskl, president, Larry Parks, vice-president, Kitty Gallagher, secretary and Norma Holland, treasurer. Kitty who left early in her fresh- man year was back with us again and had the hcnor of attending the football queen at the homecoming. Rusty Loomis washanother addition to our class but left to Join the Army. With the help cf Fr. York and Fr. Diver, a new entertainment was started- Teen Town-complete with dancing, ping pong, pool, and furnishings. Our represent- ative on the Teen Town Board was Keith Jones. With the help of our junior boys, we won first place in the Mineral Belt League championship in football. This was followed by the death of our beloved Msgr.. McCul- lough, who had been our pastor since our kindergarten days. Our class reporter was Pat Schweitzer. Early plans were made for the Junior-Senior Banquet and with our theme, Treasure Island, the affair was a success with Sister Berchman's untiring help. Then came the thrilling experience of order- ing our class rings-a moment we shall nut soon forget. Candidates for King and Queen were Betty Lero and Charles Patterson. Under the direction of Sister Vincentia, we gave our first class play entitled Toby Helps Out. The retreat given by Father Howard, C.P. was an event we shall long remember. Helena Wettstein was elected to run for Penny Queen from our room. At this time a new figure was seen in our parish-our new pastor, Father Stremel. With the coming ot summer, Norma Holland was our represent- ative for Girls' State. Bob Wilbert and Keith Joneswerechosen for Boys' State. At the end of May, the graduating class made us their heirs and willed us their title of . . . lass history Qfxyk. JL 2 5 ,1 4511, 455 4 WT: x .Q 1 r f 'T 54, A , ,1 ,. G ,f 4 V 1 s 6' . Class officers were Keith Jones, president, Bob Kazmierski, vice-president, Pat Schweitzer, secretary and Rosie Neil, treasurer. Our only new student, Mickey Gentile, left us at the semester to travel to California with his family. Our foot- ball boys were: Wilbert, Jones, McKee, Ben- age, Patterson and Grant. On the basketball court were: Patterson, Parks, Ryan, Jones and Wilbert. Again we found Betty Lero traveling with the teams as cheerleader until Rosie Neil took her place at the end of the football season. Class reporters job was handled by Larry Parks and Mary Ann Horgan. Our Marian contestants were Regina and Robert. Several of our class took part in the annual minstrel which was a big success. Our candidate for the first Penny Queen in St. Mary's history was Rosie Neil. Just before Easter, our second retreat was given by Father Herbst, C.P. Our time running out, we climbed the stairs and claimed the home- room of the .... SENIORS Enrolling for the last time was not so frivolous as the first time, for this time there was a little sentiment here and there. Filling Sister Linus' position, Sister Edwina became our principal and home room teacher. We chose as our leaders, Norma Holland, presi- dent, Charles Patterson, vice-president, Mary Ann Rome, secretary, and Mike McKee, treas- urer. This year we had three gains, Mary Rome from St. Peter, Rosemary Butler from Walnut, and Millard Pelphrey, who left us at the semester. Sodality officers for the year were: Bob Wilbert, prefect, Betty Lero, vice-president, Jim Ryan, treasurer, with Lois Oberley filling the secretary's position. The Sodality Leadership School was held at Sacred Heart College in Wichita and several members of our class attended. In October the Seniors had a sneak day in honor of Sister Edwina's and Father York's feast day. This tcok us to Noel, Missouri. Football co-captains were Mike .McKee and Keith Jones. Under the excellent coaching of Mr. Spigarelli, we wion for the second consecutive year the Mineral Belt League Football Championship. Under the leadership of Captain Bob Wilbert we were equally outstanding in basketball, also winning first place in the tournaments. The Seniors responsible for this were Wilbert, Jones, R.yan, Parks, and Patterson. Rosie Neil, ever peppy was again behind the teams with her cheerleading. Football Queen at the homecoming was Betty Lero with Regina Hutsey as attendant. Our school paper, The Marianeie, was edited bv Benage and Parks. The Marian was edited by'Kathryn Bettega and Bob Kazmierski. This year we sponsored another successful dance, at Christmas time. Our annual candidates were Kathryn Bettega and Jim Ryan who were crowned Queen Mar- ianette X and King Marian X, at the Corona- tion Ball. Rosemary Butler, Penny Queen candidate, became the third queen in our history. During Lent we held our last retreat with Father Francis Broderick O.S.B., as re- treat master. Regina Hutsey held the honor of being May Queen with Rosie Neil and Norma Holland as her attendants. Ma 0 brought a wonderful banquet given b e juniors. The first part of May was devoted to manv more activities and rarties, picnics, sneak days, our minstrel, Class Night and finally that dav of all days, graduation. So ends our history made up of work, play, joys, and prayer. With the closing of tlfis book we finally will become . . . THE ALUMNI OF ST. MARY'S .
