,nl y lass History 1, M I' ascmated Freshmen September 12 1954 the superclllous freshmen ar rlyed Norse clatter chatter bang smash clunk lt yy as qulte an entrance Then rigor mortls set ln The names of the subjects alone would frlghten such happy go lucky grammar school graduates as we were not to mentlon the huge textbooks and th towermg upper classmen The glrls 1n1t1at1on was conducted m court room style and the judges found us gullty on many many counts The Mad Hatter s Tea Party finally found lts equal The freshman unlform conslsted of a blue suit and stocklngs Unfortunately varlety of shades d trac ted from the unlformlty and lt was changed After three yy eeks Brother Nlcholas announced that the boys yyould YCCSIVC thelr first report cards As the yyeek passed fast mdeed they dld yye shy nalve fearful young frosh began to learn the ropes of the school Freshmen year afforded us the opportunltv nf plan nmg our first dance The gym resounded wlth applause for Valentmes ueen ,lean Ewgen and her Km Moco Speaklng of danclng the glrls physlcal educa tion classes were mo t enjoy able We were transed to be future ballermas as we tipped on our toes and twlrled often 1n the an We were a happy sfroup of girls as we gathered together ln the locker room to play hlde and seek rmgalevlo or performmg startlmof jumps the kmd that Mary Nlcholas could not do so consequently we all slgned her cast Marv Poppms yyas expertly portraved by Elleen Granlto as she jumped from the locker tops Wlth an umbrella We kept up the hectlc pace of hlgh school study mg that confounded Latln and running awav from those perslstent semors bent on 1n1t1at1n us Today we wlll be on assembly schedule The freshmen boys are produclng a plav entltled The Prodlgll of Dub lm' How well we remember that work of art bv Brother Pascal and the boys Some of us are still ymondermg lf that clear colored llquld supposedly water that we drank from the colored bottles was reallv water Shall we ever forget Brother Giles famous Latm 1 classes? femma femmae fammae H1 cord vsas just too long to reslst tymg to a desk They ney er dld make the blackboards wxde enough dld they? Numerous actlvltles were m full swmg Food tov and Chrlstmas card drlveel Basketball games were numerous and CXClllI'lg 8 Sprmg rolled around but fast and wlth lt came the St Patrlcks Day parade MISSIOH day Sodallty dance and roller skatmg partles The junlor and SCDIOTS had thelr proms but we dldnt complaln because we freshmen and the sophomores went on an outmg to Manorhaven' Exams came too fast and furlous Mr Ronan a k d us about basketball foul llnes on our final brology test We were ffrowmg up and we were domg lt the hard way We even recall a broken Wll'ldOWV Sophzstzrated Sophomores But ln June 1955 the 197 students and 2 puppy dogs were ent on to sophomore year The prlnclple change m our sophomore vear was the glrls new prmclpal Mother M Paul ,lo eph The unlformlty was brought back to the unlform wlth the mtroductlon of trlple cuffed socks and our br1,.ht new saddle shoes Thmgs were begmnmg to shape up untll Brother Patrlck Francls Latln 11 class turned 1nto lectures on our famous track teams Wlth some tlme to call our own we presented the ultlmate ln soclal events the Square Halloween Dance We soon became acqualnt ed with Father McCoy ern and hls Westerners H was our annual celebrlty What a frlghtemng thought to recall our subjects geometry French World HISIOYV and Caesar The boys never knew there were so many commandments until they had Brother Phlllp Would we conquer these subjects?
