History STOP LOOK AND REMEVIBER In September 1932 our llttle red jalopy pulled up ln front of St Marys Our freshman green blended w1ll Wltll the battered fenders and our shaky knees vled w1th IIS clankm carburetor Wlth a cou h and a sputter we started off on the most dlfferent, rf not the most excltmg year of our journey toward Commencement We had the reen light and plunged mto our new subjects Of course we knew the speed Ilmlt was 60 but blology al,ebra Latln and no study period caused qlllle a traffic Jam Bflgld Elson and Harry Cullman each had one hand on the wheel and Ileltllel' could agree on whlch way to turn Thls made the tr1p a httle more CXCIIIIIU but old falthful dldn t appreclate lt QTOP Our 1n1t1at10n outfits almost stopped traffic The lrls wore black stockln s audy k6I'CIl1CfS, and one whlte sock The boys fared a httle better they just bought elevator passes We noticed that John Roswat was first ln hne DETOUR We left the mam h1 hway v1a our first Hallow een dance All the glrls ea erly plled out of the car and most of the boys fnot qlute so ea erly N O STANDIN C We almost ran down the battery waltln for EISCIIIIOWCI, then the presldentlal nomlnee, to rlde down Northern Boulevard W e missed two classes walted about an hour and one half md caught a ,hmpse of hlm for about two minutes That ended our pohtxcal plunge 'VIERGING TRAI' FIC Our httle, red Jalopy really ffot lTl0Vlll0' as the basketball season rolled around The yarslty beat the faculty ln thelr annual game We took speclal lnterest cause a freshman homeroom teacher was hwh scorer wlth FIVE POIWTS Basketball WISE, remember Tom Spellmans terrlfic basket? He raced down the court got hold of the ball, shot He misses trles agaln HE MADE IT neatly plac mg the ball ln the wrong basket After that he started wr1t1n about basketball CHILDREN AT PLAY We had our battery rechar ed at the Chrlstmas show Remember our llttle orchestra complete wlth Jo Tests cello' We were on first and I don t tlunk the pro ram ever recovered especially after Roger, .lohn Marino and Tom Cullman played Wlllte Christmas CURVE AHEAD We rounded the bend and our Valentlne dance rolled 1nto vlew Decals on the wlndows ld6IlIlfI8CI our llttle Jalopy but even more frosh hke were 1ts passen gers Those dog collars and plaid caps we wore were just the thln and an emphatic Geor e filled m all the gaps of conversation We got the old bu,,y slmonlzed to wltness our Hrst school play Anne of Green Gables We had some parents as passengers that day and all enjoyed a real Ceorffe performance CAUTION Althou h our sprln s had not yet sprung sum mer was drawln nl' h and so were exams We re fueled on paramecla Latln verbs, and loads of equations All of us survlved that road test and doubted that we could ever l1ve through regents We parked our Iidltllflll conveyance 1n a safe place ready for next year It was a l1ttle worse for wear but IIS trunk was full of happy memories and we looked forward to addm, to them come September Came September we all plled mto old falthful and gave her the un leavlng empty bottles of sun tan o1l freckle cream and soda pop ln our wake dr1v1n seems her lust blff sunburn hadnt worn off Beach t1me w ns mer and we CI'lllSClI around looklng for a new diversion THE LIFE XOU SAYE 'VIAX BELONC TO A PROSH We even ,ave the old carburetor a chuckle as we put the frosh through thelr paces Their outfits were a blt more appetlzm than ours they wore hfesavers on the ends of IIICII' IJIUIHIIS Our en thuslasms carrled the lllltlatlOIl from the school Ward mto the L I R R And so Wllll our fervor went all future llllll ations AVIS We met several ro idblocks dlsgulsed as Spsllllbll and french Spanlsh was a guesslng game We were always wonderlng who our new Spanlsh teacher would be fwe had five that year!
