Monsignors Message To The Class Gt l959 VERITATEM FACIENTES IN CI-IARITATE - taken from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Ephesians - is your class motto this year. We are to practice truth in charity says the Apostle of the Gentiles. In our contacts with our fellow men, there are many opportunities to teach them the truth. Unity of Faith is one of these. The Holy Father is preparing to call an Ecu- menical Council with the hope that Unity of Faith will result. There are countless beliefs throughout the world. We who have been born into the one true Church and by training have learned to explain our Faith and defend it have an obligation to do so. We are surrounded by fine, sincere, earnest souls who are looking for the truth. They have not had the advantages that have been ours. What have we done to help them? What can we do? Each one of us can be an apostle. There is no better way to show our gratitude for the Faith than to share it with others. It will strengthen and en- liven our Faith. Charity is love - love of God and of our neigh- bor. Nothing can change the world like love. It is all powerful. It can melt the hardest heart and bring it nearer to God. It was the characteristic of the Saints. Ijust finished the LIFE OF ST. FRANCIS DE SALES - THE GENTLEMAN-BISHOP OF GENEVA. As a boy and a young man, he lived in the hot bed of Calvinism. His victory over the heresy was at- tributed to his love of neighbor. It won the hearts of his bitter listeners. In enumerating the virtues, Our Lord said, The greatest of these is charity. I am now reading A YANKEE PAUL - the life of Reverend Isaac Thomas Hecker, the founder of the Paulist Fathers. You will please Almighty God by directing a well disposed friend to the Paulist Instruction Centre on Park Street, Boston. It may mean the conversion of a whole family to the one true Faith. Let us then seek out an opportunity to enlighten our neighbors and help them spiritually. By our kindness, our charity, our love they will understand that our motive is to assist them and they will ac- cept our offer. Again, let me remind you that we are all apos- tles. In our Catholic papers, never fail to read the article by Father John O'Brien of Notre Dame Uni- versity in which he tells us of lay people who are responsible for many converts often of their entire family. A prayer to Our Lady, The Mother of the Sav- iour ofthe World, to guide you in this trulyapostolic work is sure to bring success. VERITATEM FACIENTES IN CHARITATE.
