4' QASKETBALI 4 -- 'Q Small, but scrappy. is a good phrase to use when speaking of St. Maryft Basketball team. Coach Sam Franz again floored the smallest team in the Valley, but the boys made up for their lack of height by an aggressive spirit and accurate shooting. The five ring leaders were Ronald Rupert, David W00dCOCk, Robert MavDorzald, Hubert Lynch, and Demzir Troerter. Rupert is a very good shot and a handy man to have under the backboards. lt is also rumored that Rupert is the best all- around player in the Valley. fWe agree! J MacDonald and Woodcock, combined with Rupert, out-fought opponents under the boards. MacDonald and WUKJJCOER both contributed baskets at critical moments. Troerter and Lynch proved themselves too much for opponents in both offensive and defensive maneuvers. Let us not forget the reserves who helped make the Varsity what it was. Tbumar Storey, Tlmmar Hirer, jamer LeFei're, and 102772 Nickoriemur made up a highly-talented reserve team. The heated rivalry between SS. Peter and Paul and St. Mary was won, hands down by the Midgets, but not without a fight. We think that the second game played at Webber Gymnasium was the most exciting. In that game St. Maryfr scored three points in three seconds to send the game into over-time, but the Midgett outscored the Marconi in the final four minutes to win 446-45 I. In Tournament play St. Maryfr defeated Michigan Lutbemn Seminary quite handily but ran into a highly impatient SS. Peter and Pau! team two nights later. Needless to say, the Marrtom, having a bad night all around, fell to the Midget! by a score of 150-381. We wish to express the hurrahs of the student body to both players and the coaching staff at the end of the 1952 season. junior Vanity Squad Bottom Row, left to right: V. Rocchio. L. Bishop, F.
