It is our intention to heed this challenging motto and by our good example to reflect its light. Let this challenge inspire us to greater heights and to more significant personal holiness. By our good deeds we must bring honor and glory to our Blerred Mother, Her Divine Son, and our Alma Mater. Four years membership in Our Ladyff Sodrzlity has placed at our disposal adequate means of personal sanctification and many opportuni- ties to inspire others by our good example and piety of practice. Seven boys of our Clan were granted the privilege of serving at God's altar for many years. These Kniglm of the Altar represent the congregation at the sacred Sacrifice. Ready for a procession in honor of our Lord are the Senior Knightr of the Altar. Grouped around M omignor Vogt are Ronald LeFleur, prefect of our Sodalityg Robert Sullivan, whose picture appears again as he holds the paten for Morzrigrzor during distribution of Holy Communiong and Alfred Slaggerl, whom you'll meet again as he offers a Valentine to our Lady. Holding the cross is Willianz Eckerman, president of Our Lady's Maids and Men of '52. jamef Bray also appears again as a delegate to the S.S.S. meeting. George Stewart, carrying the censer, is a star both on the football field and in the classroom. George is also the winner of the Regents- Alumni Scholarship presented by the University of Michigan. Nick Sclamelzer a faithful Knight, is also president of the Student Council. He is a winner of a P.T.O. competitive Scholarship. 8 Hotel Morrimn, Chicago, Here We Come! Mary 1951 Football season accentuated clean spirited play, accompanied by high-pitched cheers from the fans and led by competent cheer-leaders. Fans and players alike will long remember the escapades of Quarterback Nick Sflwzel- 267, while coaches still try to figure out how speedy jim Affzzlnfl eluded their 'beefyn linemen. Bob Sffllizmz and Dare llynodcncb Filled the remainder of the backfield and met the enemy's attacks with equal zest. Witli a smash of equipment and bodies clashing together, fans knew that George Stewart and Terry McCur1lJy were again on the offensive. Wlien little George Urmy started a game, the opposition cried, Look out. little guy! But the little guy was not easily scared and showed everyone that he could do more with his beneficial 155 pounds than could an awkward 200-pound opponent. At the close of the season, the boys proved again that athletic minds, morals, and morale seasoned with Catholic principles made for better playing and praiseworthy sportsmanship. Coach Sam Franz again floored the smallest team in the Valley, but the boys made up for their lack of height by an aggressive spirit and accurate shooting. The five ring leaders were Ronald Rupert, David W00dCOCk, Robert MavDorzald, Hubert Lynch, and Demzir Troerter. Rupert is a very good shot and a handy man to have under the backboards. lt is also rumored that Rupert is the best all- around player in the Valley. fWe agree! J MacDonald and Woodcock, combined with Rupert, out-fought opponents under the boards. MacDonald and WUKJJCOER both contributed baskets at critical moments. Troerter and Lynch proved themselves too much for opponents in both offensive and defensive maneuvers. Let us not forget the reserves who helped make the Varsity what it was. Tbumar Storey, Tlmmar Hirer, jamer LeFei're, and 102772 Nickoriemur made up a highly-talented reserve team. The heated rivalry between SS. Peter and Paul and St. Mary was won, hands down by the Midgets, but not without a fight. We think that the second game played at Webber Gymnasium was the most exciting. In that game St. Maryfr scored three points in three seconds to send the game into over-time, but the Midgett outscored the Marconi in the final four minutes to win 446-45 I. In Tournament play St. Maryfr defeated Michigan Lutbemn Seminary quite handily but ran into a highly impatient SS. Peter and Pau! team two nights later. Needless to say, the Marrtom, having a bad night all around, fell to the Midget! by a score of 150-381. We wish to express the hurrahs of the student body to both players and the coaching staff at the end of the 1952 season. junior Vanity Squad Bottom Row, left to right: V. Rocchio. L. Bishop, F. How fortunate we have been to have you, Cbrirfr own Mother and Mediatrix of all graces, as guide and patron of our Alma Mater. We have indeed been privileged, as students at Sl. Mary Cathe- dral I-Iigla School, where no efforts have been spared on the part of our Reverend Fathers, teachers, and parents to educate us completely. It is to each of you, in turn, that we are deeply grateful for our training in the classics, religion, and the sciences. May these lessons always be a source of help to us on our way through adult life! You don't have to be born a genius to be an honor student - but it surely helps. Over there on the other page, are Nancy Bmw, Valedictorian, and George Stewart, Saluta- torian. The race for honors started in the ninth grade and ended after four hard and full years. Nan and Steu' won by ri length. You'll meet George again as our 1952 Labarnm editor and Nancy, a music grad. On meeting them, step up to them, and say hello ! 36 4 . V, 6 , 5 ,y 1 df Wi' y 2525? The Seniors gave us hopeless looks And made us carry all their books. In all our Classes we were bright. Would you believe - we worked each night! To Mary we were pledged as one So she might lead us to her Son. Our willing tones to God we raised With Marian hymns, our means of praise. We Freshmen gave the Turkey Trot. Boy, did we think that we were tops! Gay and excited, we did appear At ev'ry dance throughout the year. At the Prom we were elite With dangling arms and stumbling feet. Our I.V. team was, oh, so neat: Our school morale was hard to beat. Sister Noelle, our principal then, Solved our problems again and again. Freshmen life We now discard: We leave this year with all-A cards! 44 AS YOU ARE--CLASS OF 1955 TOP ROW. left to right: C. Porath, R. Cutliff, V. Rocchio, R. Ryan, A. Storey, N. Navarro, F. In number now we summed six-three Ere left Propp Parsons Santhony. We studied each text from cover to cover And passed on our notes from one to another In sports, of course, we weren't outdone, For football champs we had become. So again to our studies, for which we all yearned, And the midnight oil - once more lowly burned. The Class seemed the same, though we missed just a few: C rowley, H oclgim, K. Gallagher, and Dick Newas, too. Our ship started sailing with Bob at the helm, And at times angry waves did all but o'erwhelm. They were rough, they were ruggedg oft very high, But extended, kind hands were always nearby. We welcomed October, it came in with a bound, We awaited the Fr0lic . Would it never roll round? Gay leaves, fancy figures, all over were hung, And half after eight, one hundred had come. And the football season came in like a whipg The cheerleaders - peppy, they too did their bit. And the team-the Maroonr- won much renown, And their name was a threat all over the town. As V. P. Champs, they achieved their goal.. All through the months, they played their role. We juniors contributed four men to the games: J. Malozt, Mike, Sully, and N ick were their names. During Basketball time it was much the same: The Maroom started out by winning each game, But week after week, how sad 'twas to learn That the luck of Sl. Maryfr took so fatal a turn. With Mary as model, months passed one by one, And her promise we thought of: I'll lead to my Son All my maidens and men who follow Him true Till Heavenly rewards are given as due. So runs the story of this year sublime As the hands of the clock mark the passing of time. 48 AS YOU ARE-CLASS OF 1953 4 fn ,Hgh L W .1 -.:' A L LA . A i C ' fv I 'R I 'f 4 1 . ' a .
