May ll, 1385 February 7, 1950 Twelve years ago when the class of '50 entered the first grade, the recently- eonsecrated bishop was installed here in the new diocese of Saginaw. Now as we are making ready to depart, our beloved bishop has left us. Bishop Murphy worked zealously and earned the right to be eulogized for establishing a well- ordered diocese. Wfe dedicate this section of the book to the blessed memory of him who was our first bishop and our good shepherd. 4

REVEREND EDWARD SZTURMOWSKI, assistant pastor and instructor of religion, came to St. Mary's four years ago. REVEREND MICHAEL MAHER, assistant pas- tor, instructor of religion and Athletic Director came to St. Mary's in 1948. SISTER M. MARTIN succeeded Sister M. Noella as principal in September, 1949. Previous to this time, Sister Martin was principal of St. Mary School, Muskegon. Her ability to settle problems and her fair treatment of all the students is out- standing. When interviewed by a Labarum re- porter, Sister said, It has been a pleasure in re- turning to St. Mary's to work with the boys and girls of my former pupils. SISTER M. RICHARD, teacher of mathematics, has completed her first year at St. Mary's. During this time the students have admired Sister and consider her a good sport and a true friend. Sister came to the Catheral School from St. John's, Essex- ville, and prior to that time was principal of the school famous for its basketball stars. In the short time I have been heref' Sister Richard said, I have formed a good opinion of St. Mary's stud- ents. SISTER M. EULALIA came to St. Mary's last September after teaching the subject she enjoys most, home economics, at Penasco School in New Mexico. Sister directs the Library Club and teaches junior business and history. Because of her gra- cious attitude, the students consider her a grand friend. Sister Eulalia remarked that the students at St. Mary's are accommodating and do not seem to mind inconveniencing themselves for the teach- ers. SISTER M. HONORA has been the guiding light of the sophomore classes in their home room for the past six years. Her pleasant smile and friendly greeting will long be remembered by the students she has taught. Sister came to St. Mary's from Catholic Central, Grand Rapids, to teach her favorite subject, English. In Sister Honorais opin- ion the students at St. Mary's are spontaneous and anxious for intellectual growthg they take sugges- tions and their cooperation is one hundred per cent. SISTER M. MAURICE, junior home room ad- viser, has been a member of the faculty here for seven years. During this time Sister has taught her preferred subjects: history, civics, and soci- ology. When Sister left Catholic Central, Grand Rapids, it was their loss and certainly St. Mary's gain. About the students Sister Maurice said, They are polite, courteous, and generally thought- ful, but, of course, she added, there is always room for a little more studyf, SISTER AGNES THERESE has taught biology, chemistry, and physics since her arrival at St. Mary's two years ago. She too, came here from St. -johnis, Essexville. Sister is admired for her readi- ness to give extra help to students with difficult assignments. Sister Agnes Therese has observed that the St. Mary's students make good use of their gift of loquacity for oral assignments and reports. SISTER FRANCES RAPHAEL, senior home room adviser, has made St. Maryis her home for the past eight years. Before coming to St. Mary's, Sister was a member of the faculty of St. Mary School, Lake Leelanua. Religion and Latin are her favorite subjects which she has taught at Cathedral in addition to English. Sister will be remembered for her help and understanding. Sister Frances Raphael has said, I like the spirit of friendliness of St. Mary's students and their fine respect for the priests and sisters. SISTER ROSE CATHERINE, freshman home room adviser, came to St. Mary's from St. Francis School, Traverse City, in September, 1949. Sister teaches history. In the short time that she has been at St. Mary's, her kindness and ready wit has won a place in the hearts of the students. Sister Rose Catherine has remarked that the students seem to accept corrections without holding a grudge. SISTER HENRY SUSO came to St. Maryls this year to teach instrumental music and to direct the choir and glee clubs. Previously Sister was the music instructor at St. Henry School, Melville, Sas- katchewan. The fine school spirit and the hearty cooperation of the St. Mary's students, Sister says, make it a joy to work with them. BETTY LOU JOHNSON, instructor in commer- cial subjects, joined St. Maryis faculty in 1948. The students will always remember Miss Nelson Cnow Mrs. johnsonb as one of their favorite teachers because of her tireless efforts and her understanding. She told the Labarum interviewer, My two years at St. Mary's have been the most enjoyable of my experience.
