Every fan took his own turn at side- llne coaching and criticizing, and there were times when school spirit. was at a low ebbg but eventually 'we backed our 'heroes with less grumbling as we saw that though there was less glory than we had hoped for, there was twice as much determination. Gooooooo, Gaelsl We cheeredatthe games, and 'lf it went beyond proof of our loyalty and actually helped rally the team to victory, so much the better. Mmm wma Zhi The spirit of competition ls representative of the American way of life. The competitive spirit, ever evident, ls expressed especially well in sports. It is a spirit which molds champions. A favorite among sports at St. Mary's ls basketball. To every member of the team, each game is a challenge. For the seniors on the squad, high school basketball days are over. But as he thinks back over his four years at St. Mary's, he recalls many significant associations and events. Perhaps the most important periods the player spent at St. Mary's were his freshman and senior years. u Playing on the freshman team, he eagerly anticipated the day when he would be- come a varsity player. Now, as a senior, he wishes he were a freshman again.
