Tl-IE FOUR YEHRS acr I-1945-'46 Enter the Freshmen-shy, confused, a little awed at all that goes on around them. The first few months are spent at making friends, getting used to the school and settling down to those Freshman favorites, Latin and Algebra. Time passes and they lind themselves a little more confident, not quite so timid, and the subject of much kindly interest. Basketball season appears and the Freshmen make a place for themselves on both teams. Mid-terms come and go-everyone passes, then the first Freshmen-Sophomore debate. Congratulations! The Freshmen are acclaimed the victors. May comes and along with baseball, many find time for their first dramatic debut in The Forest Prince. Finally june-exams-and Sophomores at last. HCT II-1946-'47 Enter the Sophomores-no longer the youngest in the school! They are not just part of the mass, but individuals. It is their turn to look down with amusement from their secure positions upon the Freshmen. They start things off with a bang by holding the Sophomore Halloween Hop -a big success, Again, when the sports are written up their names appear-but of course, they are Sophomores now! When the debate is held this year, the class orators do nobly and, although they do not win, they are not lacking in skill. The year proves to he a hard one, what with Latin II, Geometry, and Hrst attempts at French, but they will pull through, and the curtain closes on Act II. HCT III-1947-'48 Enter the juniors-upper classmen at last! During the first few weeks they make the headlines and break a record. For the first time juniors are appointed Editor and Assistant Editor of the school paper. A Thanksgiving dance heads the list of the yearls social activities and the days seem to fly by. More of their names become prominent on the basketball records, for indeed, they are juniors now. Mid-terms again, followed by the annual American Legion Oratorical Contest. Who but a junior is judged the winner! Dramatics again are mixed with baseball. Head- ing the lists on both they find their school baseball league champions and many of them are named as stars in the wonderful Gay Nineties Revue. The last weeks slip by-and then they are Seniors. HCT IV--1948-'49 Enter the Seniors-leaders of the school. From this prominent position they look back on other years and decide that this will be their best. Class oliicers are elected, yearbook staff chosen and studies begun in earnest. This year, above all, must count. Several dances, and a successful luncheon are carried out with great success, all proceeds going toward the yearbook. Basketball again and the Seniors do much toward making St. Mary's victors of the Upper Westchester-Putnam League. Again the Oratorical Contest and again a Senior is proclaimed the winner. The last few months are speeding by, full of plans for the Senior Ball, last minute details on the Dulces Memoriae. Class night and finally the great day-Graduation. The curtain falls slowly and the characters of The Four Years give their final bow. The play is done. Page 32
