Wg September 10th, l9L8.- Morrison 7 - S.M.H.S. 0. I N I The Irlsh open their l9L8 Gridiron activity in a tussle at M Morrison. The vaunted lustangs, loaded with confidence, ' size and power, meet up with a 'wolf in sheep's clothlng'Q ' finally score a touchdown, and manage to hang on to thelx lead, feellng lucky to emerge with a narrow 7-0 verdict o'er H1 the Flghtln' Celts. I ', h September l7th, 19h8.- Savanna 26 - S.M.H.S. 7. Savanna, one of the Illowa Loop's strongest clubs, have too , much speed and power. Counting - I ln every uarter,the Hllltoppers put together marches of 61 60 69 6 , and 25 yards for scores, as Dermody, Junxer and the Melton brothers all saunter across the double stripe Teallng Columbkllle back temporarily grabs the spotlight with e 93 yard punt run back ln the final period October let, l9L8 L ons 13 S I H S 0 It's rough 'n' tough give 'n' take football as the two croestown arch rivals meet again Suddenly 'blocked punt' and Lyons recovers in the end zone to draw first blood Once more the two elevens lock horns Then another break falls the wrong way A Lyons'pass interception lnslde the Hill toppers 5 paves the way for the Wildcats' second T D and ends the scoring for the night October 8th, 19L8 S M H S 10 Sterling Community 0 With the Irish line virtually pushing the C mets all over the field, the Irish have much less trouble with the tail andere of the Conference than the score would indicate S lmpregnable ls the Hllltcpper forward wall, that Sterling is limited to a net yardage of minus two in the final half Irish scores come on Dermody's 20 yard ramble, and ssfetles by ends Danlelssn and Whalen.
