Ed. After teaching for a year in St. Mary Grade School, Miss Combre joined the high school faculty and in this short time has established herself as a friend and advisor. Aside from her duties as girl's physical education and health instructor, she has taken over the responsibilities of G.A.A. advisor, showing further her appreciation of athletics. Her outside interests are many and varied. Basketball is a great favorite as any girl in her gym classes could tell you. She teaches a class of interpretive dance, enjoys ice skating, and the latest in modern jazz. Mr. Patrick Mannion Civics Commercial Law The newest addition to the St. Mary staff is Mr. Mannion. He handled the reins in Senior Problems quite capably and completed a successful fourth quarter with the commercial law class. A ruling hand in the peaceful domain of study hall was also a part of his daily duties. Mr. Mannion's favorite out- door sport just might be golf. We welcome an alumnus to the faculty and hope that his stay will be permanent. Mr. Klotz World History Studying about the Neanderthal man the Egyptians, or the battles of Napoleon is but a part of the World History course taught to the Sophomores this year by Mr Klotz another new faculty member Mr Klotz attended St Mary s for ten years, entered a prep school at Latrobe Pennsylvania, and spent his college years at Iohn Carroll University His extra curricular in terests include reading watching a good foot ball or basketball game or listening to record ings of classical music or marches Mrs. William McDermott Senior Problems Substituting for Father Sullivan for part of the year was Mrs. McDermott. l-ler ability to combine knowledge and friendliness added interest to the Civics classes during her stay. She enjoys reading in her spare time, especially mystery stories. Mrs. E. R. Zuendel School Secretary Performing the various secretar- ial duties is all part of a day's work for Mrs. Zuendel. Typing! filing and checking attendance are just a few. A ready smile and a cheer- ful hello greet those who have oc- casion to X 1Sil the office. School Maintenance Constant repair is needed to keep a school in good condi- tion. There is always some- thing to be fixed or replaced. Leaky water fountains are no exception. Here Mr. Kulton ponders over the problem ot what to do with a sink that in- sists on spilling Water over the floor. gi' ..-1 fc '- ' -Wt 3 v N N s' ' 'il K... A love of the great outdoors is not a necessity tor janitorial Work, but it helps a good deal when there are large yards to mow in summer and lots of snow to shovel when winter pays a visit. He covered all the important matters concerning faith and morals that We as teenagers should under- stand. As a Whole, it seemed to be a success, and a positive move toward the betterment of St. Mary's students. 1858 Lourdes Centenary 1958 as I Q Mary conceived without sin, cease not, we beseech thee, to em- brace us with the warmth of thy ma- ternal love. For a hundred years thou hast called to Lourdes men of every race, nation and walk of life that they might find there, through thy powerful intercession, a renewal of spiritual health and a cure, too, of their bodily ills whenever thy Di- vine Son judges it expedient for the salvation of souls. May we feel ever more deeply the tenderness of thy love in this Centenary Year of thy Apparitions. Take pity, O lmmaculate Virgin, on all the distress and weakness of mankind. Grant that through prayer and penance, on which thou hast been so insistent, this world may find anew that love of Christ and obedi- ence to His law, which, uniting the children of all nations and the na- tions themselves in one bond of bro- therly love, will banish from every heart the anguish which oppresses us and so allow true peace to reign at last over this earth. Thus may all mankind with one and the same joy- ous heart sing the praises of thy lm- maculate Conception. 65 t if ff? - ., zz wil' s I-fl--Us-. On lune 4, in St. Mary's Church, commencement exercises were held for the l44 members of the graduat- ing class of '58 The usual mixed emotions were displayed by the graduates, relief and joy in finishing their secondary education and yet sorrow in leaving friends and famil- iar surroundings. For many this was their last graduation, for others, a gateway to higher education. For all, it was the last time to see the en- tire class together. Petty differences and arguments melted away and a wonderful sense of unity prevailed as they prepared for the event which they longed for and yet strangely feared. Any gratitude that they could have expressed to those who made these years possible had been extended to them by former graduation classes. They could only echo their message in thanking all who have helped mould the class into what it is today. The teachings and example will re- main always with the seniors as they attempt to live good Christian lives in this material-minded world.
