1976 Panther Baseball Team, The Best In The Histor Cf St. Marys The 1976 Panther baseball team, under Coach lack Al- tenburger, compiled an 18-5 season record and a 6-2 SBC record to win the conference title. jeff Schwerer, Craig McGory and Gary Miller were voted to the first team All-Conference squad, while Curt McCarthy, Todd Bickley and Scott Allen were chosen to the second team. Their only losses this year were to Fremont St. Joe, Perkins, Vermilion twice and to Leipsic in the regional final. The ball club defeated Norwalk St. Paul three times, Norwalk High, Monroeville, Huron, Sandusky, and Perkins once. They then defeated Tiffin Calvert, Mar- garetta, Clyde and St. Joe twice to end the regular season games. In tournament action, they defeated Norwalk St. Paul and Fremont St. Joe for the sectional championship. They beat Wynford and Woodmore to win the district title, and won their first game of the regional tourna- ment over Pettisville to enter the finals. They then dropped a tough game to Leipsic 8-2. Scott Miller and Mr. Paul Manner coached the rookies throughout the schedule. Their only victory was a 7-3 decision over the Margaretta Polar Bears.
