iff' Golfers Finish - I The golf squad, under the leadership of Coach Jack Altenburger, finished the 1975 season with an overall 8-11 record, and a 3-7 record in the S.B.C. The team drove their way up the fair- way of victory, as they beat Ver- milion, New London, Edison, Pt. Clinton, Perkins, Calvert and Huron. But then put a divet into their record as they lost to St. Joe, Clyde, Vermilion, Perkins, Huron, Calvert, New London, Pt. Clinton, and San- dusky. St. Mary's Drives Out A Dramatic The 1975-76 Panther basketball team wasted no time leaving the starting block as they rolled up thirteen consecutive victories, before falling to defeat. The first sweet thirteen games were Western Reserve, Huron, Mansfield, St. Pete's, Perkins, Danbury Lake- side, Old Fort, South Central, Tiffin Calvert, Clyde, Fremont St. Joe, Margaretta, Fostoria St. Wendelin, and Huron for the second time. Perkins stopped the Panthers for the first time with a home court advan- tage and Tiffin Calvert handed the club its second loss. The Panthers, however, rebounded back to beat Clyde, Fremont St. Joe, and Margaretta for the second time. They entered the Sectional Class A Tournament in Willard 16-2 and defeated South Central and Ashland Crestview to capture the Sectional crown. The Panthers then moved on the the Galion Class A Districts and beat Mansfield St. Pete's and advanced into the finals, only to capture a runner-up position to Monroeville. The Panther squad finished the season with 19 wins and 3 losses. Earlier in the season, the team Sent a letter request- ing the presence of Mr. john Wooden, coach of the UCLA Bruins, at the Winter banquet. The retired UCLA coach didn't let a group of kids down after they had invited him to attend their banquet. The awards presented at the banquet were to Jude Meyers for Most Valuable Player. Craig McGory and Tom Meyers received special awards. McGory also joined Jude Meyers on the first team SBC honors with a 12.5 point average per game. jude finished his season as leading scorer i the conference, as he averaged 20 points per game and 11 rebounds. Jude was also the repeat SBC All-Star by unanimous choice. l'm really happy for Jude, he deserved the honors, beamed Coach Paeth. Season! Coach Norm Paeth, selected as the district coach of the year, signals the charge. Co-captains Brian Davie and jude Meyers grasp trophy after winning the Panther Classic.
