A Coach Butch Weyer, voted SBC coach of the year for 1975 by other SBC HIT 48 Weyer Coaches Pantl It was an emotion-packed year, commented Coach Butch Weyer at the 1975 fall football banquet. We had 43 young men working together to achieve a goal. Although it was Mr. Weyer's rookie year as head coach at St. Mary's, he had a winning season, 7-3, and led the Panthers to a 3-way tie for second place in the SBC with Clyde and Huron. The Panthers opened the 1975 football season against a tough Utica ball club, and fell to defeat 13-3. They bounced back, however, to even the record by clobbering Western Reserve 54-0. Things got rough for the rookie head mentor as he and his Panther ball club clashed helmets against the Perkins Pirates for their first SBC game. Although they lost 25-7, it didn't stop St. Mary's! They knocked off state ranked Mc- Donald 14-7 and then traveled to Fremont to battle the St. Ioe Crimson Streaks. The Panthers came out victorious, de- feating St. joe 7-6, and regaining possession of the GOLDEN FOOTBALL. The Panthers had the Football last in 1939. After receiving the football Coach Weyer exclaimed, lt's been 36 years baby! fter defeating St. joe, the Panthers edged by the Margaretta Polar Bears 10-7 on Jeff Schwerer's 14 yard field goal with seconds remaining. The Saints fell into the losing column for the last time, defeated by the Huron Tigers by a score of , 14-0. The Panther Machine started rolling again as they trounced Fostoria St. Wendelin 31-16. The following week St. Mary's thundered into Strobel Field, and by using ball control upset the Clyde Fliers 14-0. The Panthers closed the season by stunning Tiffin Calvert 13-6. coaches. Finishing the season 7-3, it was evident the coach and his saints have PANTHER PRIDE! FRONT ROW KL-RJ C. McGuire, D. Schwanger, I. Schwerer, D. Roth Qcapt.J, Greg Smith fcaptj R. Guerra, S.
