Foreword Another page is about to turn as the quarter-of-a-century mark is passed. Suddenly one pauses and is startled by the realization that hundreds have gone forth from Saint Mary's hoping to make this World a better place in which to live, labor, and love. Now it is our turn to step over the threshold of school life into manhood and Womanhood. Having in mind the same idea of casting a radiant glow of truth and justice around our sphere of endeavors, we have chosen as the theme of our 1958 Ave Maria the motto which we hope will be our aim during life: Better to light one candle than to curse the dark- ness. As we peruse these pages in later years, our memories will be refreshed as We recall the rays of love, reverence, and courage that came to us from the faculty, rays of hope, conti- dence, and industry from our classmates, rays ol respect, admiration, and trust from underclassmen. The beams of light and knowledge which we grasped during these four years will guide us on through life, piercing the darkness of error and revealing the brilliance of truth, until the light of our one candle casts a golden ray of peace on all whom we meet.
