His wit, charm and encourage- ment has been a source of in- spiration when oil else foiled. He has brought us through the trials of Oliver Twist, the stormy romance of Tess ond Alec D'Urberville, the guilt of Oedipus, and through a long Night Sea Journey. He has been more than a teacher; he has been our friend. For that friendship we shall always be grateful. With love and respect the Senior class of 1982 dedicates this edition of the La Reata to Mr. Laird Loomis. 5 The school emblem, the shield, is divided into quarters, each of which denotes one port of the Saint Mary's Hall education. These four parts, uni- ty, knowledge, truth and honor form a strong basis for the journey of life. However, it is not enough to hove this 'shield' of education. Unless we know how to use it pro- perly, it is of little advantage to us. The curriculum at Saint Mary's Hall encourages us to use our in- telligence and talents to their greatest potential, so that we will be able to cope with defeats and triumphs that lie in the days ahead.
