La Reata 1973 jr y Saint Mary’s Hall San Antonio, Texas r I 4 Judy Wipke Editor-in- Chief Foreword In the past year, we of Saint Mary’s Hall have seen both revision and innovation in our lives here. New channels of interaction have resulted in mutual understanding and trust among students, faculty and administration. By daily effort in a common spirit, each individual who has earned new freedoms has also earned greater responsibilities. As we pursue simultaneously our own interests and the common good of our school world, we believe that we have acquired a deep and lasting appreciation of renewed unity, the theme of the 1973 La Reata. 5 1973 La Reata Staff Editor-in-Chief.......................................Judy W ipke Co-editor..........................................Alicia Spencer Staff members: Patty Dave, Stephne Willkens, Betsy Nixon, Corinne Mani, Lynn Arneson, Jenny McHugh, Debbie Brennan, India Chumney, Marietta Wynne Photographer: Janie Smith. Dedication We, the class of 1973, wish to acknowledge the concern and friendship extended to us by a very special friend. Of- ten we have come to her, individually or in groups, and she has always received us with warmth and consideration. She has taught us both the treasures of books and the values of life . Therefore, with our love and appreciation we dedicate the 1973 La Reata to Mrs. Barbara Fuller. 10 Farewell to Seniors: I hope that Saint Mary’s Hall hasn’t prepared you just for college. Almost any secondary school can do that. It isn’t all that difficult to give you the knowledge and skills to get you into college. 1 feel certain we did a good job in that respect, but I hope we have helped you to achieve more than this. I hope we have helped you to realize the value of yourself and of all human beings; to develop the courage to stand by your convictions; to find and appreciate the beauty that is in the world around you; to live by,rather than merely define, words like truth, honesty, justice, and compassion. It seems like such a short while ago that I was teaching some of you eighth-grade history, and now you are graduat- ing. The time goes by so quickly. We just really get to know you and it’s time for college. Even though we will keep up with each other, it’s never quite the same-but that’s the way it has to be. I know I feel, as your teachers do, that you have made our lives richer by sharing with us your successes and your failures, your smiles and your tears. I hope you enjoyed our friendship as much as we enjoyed yours. It is something I WILL CHERISH FOREVER. 11 Sherwood W. Inkley Acting Headmaster Mr. Ed R. L. Much has been said about the efforts made by students and faculty, but what is not generally recognized is that each of those changes represents hours of deliberation by the Board of Trustees. They are responsible for the future of Saint Mary’s Hall and cannot make their decisions lightly. We, the students, wish to thank the members of the Board for the time and effort they have spent in helping Saint Mary’s Hall, a large and important part of our lives. School Office Mrs. Pauline B. Concerning all aets of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitelv commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occured.
