The very sound of this phrase brings to mind wishful visions of Colces, rounds of parties, an- nuals, and. last of all, graduation, The realization of these dreanis begins when, on the second Monday of earh sthool year, blue ties are presented to the seniors of Saint lXfary's Hall who have maintained good grades. The student body files onto the terrate in double rows. Then tome the seniors with no ties on, and they walk proudly up to the front of the assembled group. There is an expectant hush. The senior class presi- dent is talled up and reteixes her tie. The other seniors are called in order. liiery time it is xery much the same, There are dif- ferent girls and sometimes .1 different Head Mistress, but the tertmony is .1 tradition. However, this year was special for me because I was in the last row of the student body and in ini' mind l was thinking iubilantly, Next year, l'll be up theref lt will be my turn at last! +Rosemary House 1 X Lit r 'QV S Y ,Wham A M fm if K 1. ki .il mf in ,L Y fx ,., ,, x , 'Q ,Q ,,,, ' xg ' .. . Miss Beatrice McDermott, strives throughout the year to uphold the standards and ideals of the school. Co-operation, school spirit, loyalty, and good citizenship are the main goals of the Council. The welfare of each individual student and of the student body as a whole is given careful thought and honest and fair consideration. Proctoring all upper school study halls, keeping order in the lines, supervising dismissals. and stressing the correct uniform are the main jobs of the Student Council. In each instance, the council works for the best interests of all and tries always to make decisions that will be beneficial to the entire school, thereby making Saint Mary's Hall a more enjoyable place in which to learn. , K gmfywz fzmw life! 625155 6767Zlll6'l! The Spanish Club at Saint Mary's Hall was organized to promote .1 greater knowledge ot' the various cultures of Spanishrspeaking coun- tries around the world. Senora Nanez head of the Spanish department, is the sponsor ot' the club. Her guidance and interest in all our activities make the club an outstanding organization. Though somewhat frustrating to those whose Spanish is inadequate for an entire weeks conversation, the initiation is always ingeniously planned by the old members, and everyone has fun. An impressive tandlelight ceremony takes place at the end of initiation week and each old member pins the club colors, gold and red, on the new girls. At each month's meetings business is combined with pleasure, and activities are planned for the whole year. Among these many activities are included frequent gatherings at members' houses as well as trips to foreign movies, Mexican restaurants, and shrines. ln lvlay the Spanish Club pins are given to the new members at the annual banquet, ancl we say hasta la proxima' as we look forward to another year. 5 , 'du 2 L n . e gif, i -e lf .: -. However, all is not hard work, for usually after it long day of paint- ing the club members gather at friends' houses for refreshments. The Art Club excursions have also included trips to the San Antonio museums and to informative lectures concerning art in drama and literature. During Fiesta week at school, Art Club members share the hard work by painting posters for the other Clubs and organizations. Under the direction of Mr. Stone, who is well-known in San Antonio for his excellent choral direction, and accompanied by Mrs. Tomlinson the club has become an important part of school life. Throughout the years, the club has staged operettas, sung for other San Antonio clubs, and entertained the wounded at Kelly and Brooks Hospitals. Also it has joined other singing groups in participation at the music festival during Fiesta Vifeek. Though these outside activities are highlights, the club's main work is done at school, Two meetings a wcek prepare the club members for memorable occasions such as the Vesper Choral Service, the Father's Day Chapel Service, and toward the end of the year, the Baccalaureate Service in honor of the graduates The Choral Club closes its year with a performance at Graduation 5 D api ZISIO' A graduating senior has completed an important part of her musical education when she has played her final recital at Saint Marys Hall. The Elliott defense Carolina Nan and Beva guarded the goal so well that at the first half the Capers had no score. In the second half the Elliotts made some tries for goals in Caper territory but the Caper defense Carland Runita and Barbara was too strong. The Capers pushed back toward the Elliott goal but the defense was waiting for them. After more excitement at both goals, some bmutiful kicks, and only a few bruised legs, the score stood 0-0.
