TO THE CLASS OF '53 For Mercy, Courage, Kindness, Mirth, There is no measure upon earth. Nay, they wither, root and stem, If an end be set to them. All of you have heard the first two lines of this verse read at the time awards are given at the com- mencement exercises. The last two may be unknown to many of you. I quote them here for you because, as a class, you have exhibited to a high degree mercy, courage, kindness, mirth and it is my fond hope and belief that as you separate on commencement day you will have no idea of allowing those qualities to wither or an end be set to them. You have shown mercy and kindness in your iudgment of and attitude toward others. You have displayed courage in facing issues realistically and accepting criticism constructively. Mirth has played a very real part in your class and school life. Naturally, you have enioyed your rightful share of adolescent capers but also there has been evidenced a consistent cheerfulness and understanding humor which has established a harmonious rapport- a comradeship - between you and the faculty - be- tween you and the student body. I feel, as l am sure does each one of us here, a mature sincere warmth in your approach to all matters and persons connected with our school. This has made you not only our pupils but our very real friends. l shall miss your willingness to listen, your ability to evaluate, your desire to see both sides of all situations, and, because it contains so much of the heart and appreciation of our school, your infectious gayety -- the mirth that has been tem- pered by mercy, courage, and kindness. Keep and treasure these qualities as you leave us and the school to which you have given and added much. Affectionately, Headmistress
