This group consists of the presidents and vice-presi- dents of grades seven through twelve, plus one student council representative from each grade. This group meets once a month with Mr. Leech and Mrs. Davis to discuss suggestions submitted by St. Mary's stu- dents. The Student Council Suggestion Committee is just another example of the cooperation between the faculty and the students. BELOW: TOP ROW, l. to r.: B. Mann, B. Olim, W. Brooks, L. Walpole, M. Honor Council The Honor System is a vital part of the life at St. Mary's. This system encourages each student to be on her honor to pursue at all times the ideals for which St. Mary's stands. The purpose of any effective honor code should be to uphold the ideals of hon- esty prescribed by an honor code, in order to maintain a trustful atmosphere. The Honor Council at St. Mary's is made up of thir- teen representatives 5 two representatives from each grade plus the President from the twelfth grade and the secretary is one of the eleventh grade members. The Honor Council is not controlled by the adminis- tration nor responsible to it This system cannot work and the council cannot operate without the sup- port of every student. At S.M.S. the Honor Code is a way of life, not just an idealistic dream. TOP LEFT: Sec. Lucy Loveless, Pres. Watty Brooks. ABOVE: G. Barron, T. Lupo, and M. Walt. TO RIGHT: MEMBERS: TOP, l. to r.: C. Student Council Much of the enthusiasm of St. Mary's is aroused by the Student Council. They begin the year with Derby Day in the second week of school. Derby Day welcomes new students and prepares both the new and old for a year of competition and spirit. In October, the Student Council sponsors the Halloween Bazaar and at Christmas the Stu- dent Council organizes skits and encour- ages class unity and participation in deco- rating the halls. During the second semes- ter, the council has a Talent Show. One ofthe most active weeks in the school year is that of Student Council elec- tions. The spirit of competition is great throughout the speeches and skits but the involvement of each student is possibly the best outcome of elections. Spirit, involvement and respect are ins- tilled by the Student Council. This group, aided by the support of the entire student body, accomplishes these goals. The result of a strong Student Council is a strong stu- dent body. fg .isss ss ,.... v-gf: f K. W s ' 4' 'Wy' N
