Senior Spirit of 1987 ln the beginning there were l36 freshmen. from various background. and of different sizes tmostly smalli. shapes. and shades. Bro. Michael greeted us with a speech about being the class of 1987. but who would think it would ever happen. Under the leadership of Freshman President Paul Smith, we began the year in anticipation of groud-breaking gor ther skateboard ramp. the swimming pool. and ski lcum promised during the campaign, 0ur first high school festivities were the saw-dust daneesg and if there ever was a DJ, worse the Dr, Funk. it was Sam Mack at the Frosh mixer. Only he would mix Def Leppard with l Need a Freak. We en- tered in a musical world with Mr.Barret's Begin' ning Band and the First year of the Chorus. Bro. Michael ASKED us to be members of the chorus. and who was dumb enough not to say yes. Early on in our days at St. Mary's we got the 501 Blues in every color but blue. except when worn with black loafers. Hernan Kusnetloff was black and blue after flying up the bleachers with a little help from Br, .lohn Cislo. And speaking of flying high. Andy Shimabukuru was the first freshman to make the Varsity Baseball Team. This must have been the year for sports. because our basketball x QT' team won the frosh cage title. At the end of the year we lost the wisdom of Mr. Al lsola, who went on to other things. The beginning of our sophomore year brought many changes. Everybody came back to school with a better self-image. or so they said. The year also brought some new faces. such as John The Tree Killer Milton and Fred Lewis tbaskctball ineludedi. These changes brought on maturity. but Bro, Albert didn't like dealing with babies. so Steve Taranto's cheek sure did get red. A sign that we were becoming a bigger part ofthe St. Mary's community was the purchasing of our school jack- cts. Much to our surprise. the sophomore class dance ti as very successful. But not all thc dancers thought so, Maybe Ralph, Tom, Sean. and Garnett will think twice about skipping to Ero-Ero-Erotic
