In Search of the Mighty GPA There is a basic goal for each student at Saint Mary ' s - - to graduate. For some this is not so easy. We must not only attend classes but study, frequent the library, and cram for that all im- portant final exam. We do whatever we have to in search of that mighty GPA. One of the outstanding majors offered here is that of Biology. The environment is conducive to this field of study, with the St. Mary ' s River, the pond, and the swamp, Peepersburg. It is usually the Biology majors seen wading hip- deep in the marsh for specimens. Biology, how- ever, is only one of the many areas of study. Others include: Social Science, English, Natural Science, English, History and Art. Being a liberal arts college, St. Mary ' s students are required to take courses in practically every area of study. Thus, the classes have a variety of students. Because the school is such a convenient size, one may get to know just about every student on campus. The small class size eliminates anomosity between teachers and students. The teachers are easily accessible, and many times are seen socializing with the students.

SMC...A World of Its Own (F EL As one drives south on Route 5, one can easily miss our small liberal arts college. Once, however, St. Mary ' s has been found it cannot be forgotten. The beauty here catches the eye of everyone. Along Route 5 we have our waterfront. The river invites windsurfers, sailors, and swimmers into its calm. Heading up the hill is the Garden of Remembrance, Church Point and our re- constructed State House; not to mention the sturdy Calvert, Kent, and Anne Arundel Halls. Even our buildings hold beauty. The beauty of St. Mary ' s is not limited to the scenic surroundings - we find beauty in our student body and faculty as well. At our school one can feel free to express himself. Individuality is a must. One may lose himself in a crowd and quietly observe the diversity of people and activities or join in and become a member. And there are activities! One can throw a frisbee across campus, study peacefully under a shady tree, or just sit chatting with friends. We may be a small college but our hearts and potentials are large!
