Outstanding Susan Claggett has helped many a student with her kindness and personality. As president of S.G.A. and through various awards received during her four years at S.AA.S., she has shown her leadership ability. Although a good student, being a member of Phi Theto Kappa, she is by no means a book- worm. Susan had participated on the Hockey Varsity All-Star Team and Volleyball All-Star Team — thus showing her athletic ability. V ith a finger in every pie, Susan seems to be able to keep her temper when everything goes wrong. She ' s a friend to both the student body and the faculty. Susan Claggett Sandy Osteen has been spreading cheer through the halls of St. Mary ' s for four years. During those four years she has had an active part in the life at St. Mary ' s. She was a member of Honor Court for two years and in her last year she handled the job of Chairman of Honor Court with patience and un- derstonding. Sandy has always shown an interest in athletics and has served on the A. A. Board as both volleyball and tumbling managers. She has also participated in the athletic programs by play- ing in intramurals. She has been on the hockey var- sity for two years and the volleyball all-stars for two years. She helped to boost the college spirit the two years she was on the cheerleading squad. For the four years she has been here Sandy has been a member of the choir. She has also been a mem- ber of Somodro, the Home Economics Club, the Hockey Club, and the Point News. Sandy hasn ' t limited her interest to study and clubs, she has worked in the library and the girl ' s store for all four years. Now you can see why her class has elected Sandy to be most versatile. Sandy Osteen Sophomores In June of 1959 Federalsburg High School lost one of the most outstanding students ever to gradu- ate from Its halls; in June of 1961 St. Mary ' s Semin- ary Junior College will graduate an outstanding stu- dent and individual. The two students and indivi- dual referred to ore one and the same — Bernese Culhane. Bernese has far surpassed her commendable high school record. In her freshman year at college she was elected archery manager on the A. A. Board. Her excellent ability as an activity manager, her willingness to help, and her infectious enthusi- asm has enabled her to so outstanding a job as President of the Athletic Association. Bernie has been a member of all intermural teams, including hockey, volleyball, and basketball and is Captain of the all star Basketball team. For those who could not attend the sports acti- vities, Bernese as sports Editor of the Point News, filled them in. This year ' s freshmen were extremely lucky in having Bernese on the Orientation Committee. Her warm, sparkling personality lessened their difficul- ties and anxieties. As an Athlete, Student, Individual, and friend, Bernese has won a spot in the heart of each person at St. Mary ' s. Bernese Culhane St. Mary ' s has greatly benefited from the inter- est and contributions of Rose Marie Peacher, better known as Peach. Aside from her office of vice- president of the Student Government Association, her membership on athletic teams and clubs, her parts in school productions for membership in Phi Theta Kappa, and her interest in and willingness to help each individua l and organization. Peach is known for her artistic ability. Last year this talented student was the recipient of the Best Oil Painting award. Her personality, talent, and initiative have Peach a great success at St. Mary ' s, one of whom only the best are deserving of her presence. Personality and charm combined with service and leadership are exemplified by her whenever there is something happening. She is always around with a helping hand whether it be an athletic team or decorations for a dance. She will long be remembered for her willingness to work as demonstrated in such activi- ties as the choir, the hockey team, and Artist and Lecture Committee. No matter what Dianna is doing she enjoys doing it and working with other people. As a final honor and privilege she was chosen to represent St. Mary ' s Seminary Jr. College in the annual Apple Blossom Festival. l l- Dianna Dunhorr Judy Peper is truly the contributed the most for St. Mary ' s. No matter what type of activity or social event you ore planning, Judy is right there with some new ideas or to give a helping hand. She has helped with athletic activities and social events, but her specially is dance decorations. This organization con- sists of every female student enrolled here. The main purposes of the A. A, are to administer athletic and recreational activities for v omen students, to establish leadership, to increase class spirit and loy- alty towrord the school, and to promote good sports- manship. Any member of the Association is eligble for the Board which is the governing body of the organiza- tion. The board consists of a president, vice-presi- dent, secretary, treasurer, activity managers, social chairman, class representatives, and ex-officio — the president of the Student Government Association. This active organization sponsors both athletic and social activities. Archery, volleyball, basketball, badminton, softball, hockey, tennis, swimming, boat- ing, dance, and cheerleading are offered through intramurals, clubs, varsity teams, all-star teams, sports days, invitational games, and recreational activities. The social activities consist of the Christ- mas prom. May Day, A. A. picnic, A. A. banquet, rec- ord hops, and other activities scheduled by the board for any given date. Through the Athletic Association the varsity teams are given much sup- port by the frequently scheduled pep rallies. The Athletic Association is an active, hard- work- ing organization which gets its reward through the satisfaction of the participants in its activities. Third row M.s Stancil, Spon The varsity hockey learn of 1960 was a tremen- dous success for St. Mary ' s. Under the skillful teach- ing of Miss Stancil, the girls learned the meaning of fair play, good sportsmanship, and many new skills which had been unknown to them before. Upon these fore mentioned traits the varsity team was cho- sen. The girls put in an exceptional amount of time and energy for practice and it was all worthwhile. The school spirit which was gained from these prac- tices and games will long be remembered and will be carried down through the years. Susan Claggell, Miss Stancil, Sponsor, Oakif The Volleyball Intramurals got off to a bong early in November. The student body met in the gym smoker and selected three teams from each class. A round robin tournament was held consist- ing of fifteen games. All in all these intramurals, which were won by team 1, exhibited the much im- proved school spirit and sportsmanship of St. Mary ' s Seminary Junior College. The Volleyball All-Star squad was selected by Miss Stancil. Ten outstanding girls were picked were chosen for the squad. These girls were picked for participation, sportsmanship, and skill. The fac- ulty-student game was held November 4. The fac- ulty won the game — however, the All-Stars played a great game. All- Stars This year St. Mary ' s hod a varsity basketball team chosen from the intra- mural players. The girls were chosen for good sportsmanship, ability, attitude, willingness, and spirit. The first game was played at Notre Dome on February 16 at 4:30 in the afternoon. For the second game the girls left S. M. S. on March 3 and spent the night at Salisbury State Teachers College. The next day they played a gome with the S. T. C. girls and then returned to S. M. S. that afternoon. During the entire season the girls worked very hard practicing to make their team a success, not only for themselves but for S. M. S. This year the team lived up to the theory to the best of its ability. By displaying good sports- manship and true team spirit each member gave S.M.S- J.C. due reason for being proud of him, and each player started each game with the same idea and de- termination: that I ' m going to win. The students also have a theory: they are behind the team all the way. The team could feel confident of their support no matter what occurred on the court.
