S Q THE REVEREND BLAINE COOK We dedicate this yearbook to you, Father Cook, for your unselfish efforts to make this school great -- as it is today. Through you we have attained a height in scholastic and extra-curricular activities only dreamed of in previous years. You will not always be here to greet the alumni as they return to feel this spirit which is unequaled, but you will have left such a stamp on every student's mind that your bodily presence will not be needed. Your spirit, mingled into the mortar and steel of this school, will remain forever. As we cross the threshold of the new world, we carry in our hearts the truth you instilled into us -- God is really all that matters. 3 HIS EXCELLENCY THE MOST REVEREND VINCENT J. RYAN, D.D. Never will be forgotten this powerful man who created for the greater honor and glory of God. The new structures throughout the diocese will live on as memorials to the man who erected them for education's sake, for comfort's sake, for necessity's sake, but most of all for charity's sake. Out of the depths I have cried unto Thee, O Lordg Lord, hear my voice, Hear our voices, we the people who had the honor of knowing Bishop Ryang grant him eternal rest and light. His life was neither long nor short, his accomplishments many. A THE REVEREND JOHN GARVIN, E,D, Father John is an interesting man to have as the head of a schoolg we are proud to have him as the head of OUR school. Born in Minot, he attended grade and high school there. Having graduated from the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, he completed his sem- inary studies and was ordained into the Priesthood in 1934. Father John has two big responsibilities. Saint Mary's Central High takes his time during the week, while his New Salem Parish monopolizes his weekends. The altar of the Bishop Ryan Memorial Chapel is finished in black walnut, topped with a birch canopy. The floor is composed of one -foot squares of red oak. The presence of the Blessed Sacrament in the school sanc- tifies the students' relationship with God, making Him an inspiring part of their lives. B. Henn, M. Franklin, H. Bachmeier, I.
