FCREIGN STUDENTS This year the students of the St. Marys Area High School are privileged to have with them two foreign exchange students, Christine Scheinbenreiter of Austria and Margarita Kaneshiro Teruya of Peru. The two students are pic- tured below with their American families. Christine Scheibenreiter, a native of Hollabrun, Austria, is a foster daughter at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Meyer. Already a high school graduate, Chris plans to enroll at the University of Alma Mater Rudolphina in Vienna. A native of Lima, Peru, Margarita Kaneshiro Teruya is shown with her American family, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Wickett, and their children. Upon returning to Lima, Margarita plans to enter the University of Mayor de San Marcos. JANUARY THAW On May 14 and 15, the senior class pre- sented the sparkling Broadway comedy, January Thaw. The play revolved around the Gage family, who had recently moved to an old farmhouse in Connecticutg a peaceful atmosphere in which Mr. Gage could attempt to write a best-seller. Some time after the Gages arrived in Connecticut, the Rockwoods, an elderly couple who had originally owned the house, returned, claiming they had a right to stay in the house as long as they lived. A fight for possession of the house began, with neither family being able to turn the other out. The situation became even more compli- cated when the Gage's daughter apparently eloped with the Rockwood's song and Mr. Husted, her fiance, arrived in Connecticut for their intended marriage. All in all, the play was a tremendous success, with the audience bursting into spontaneous laughter at many incidents in the play. The senior class wishes to thank the members of the cast, the members of the various committees, the directors, and anyone else who helped make this play one K , K fa sf- xr , ' w-...ff ' 'ti I . This year, our cheerleaders, led by co-captains, Carol Kronenwetter and Jean Wickett, have inaugurated a drive to promote school spirit. By organizing the Pep Club, by making the pep rallies more interesting to the students, and by promoting interest in all school activities, the cheerleaders feel that this goal will become a reality in future years. The girls raise their own money by selling articles which con- tribute to the development of school spirit. In addition, each year, they are solely responsible for holding the annual Varsity Queen Crowning. l 63 AML CHAMPIQNS Left to Right: Perry Evert, Randy Silvis, Jerry Sain, Dale Duell, Paul Manning, Walter Beck, Denny Posteraro. The Student Council of the St. Marys High School consists of students in grades nine through twelve. Complaints and requests that are presented to the council are discussed and voted upon by its mem- bers. The proposals are then sent to the school principal, who may then implement or reject them. Moreover, the Student Council sponsors social activities so that it can raise money for the for- eign exchange students who visit our school and our community. FRONT ROW: D. Hudock, D. Carr, R. CHEMISTRY CLUB The Chemistry Club, under the direction of Mr. Meredith, per- forms various chemical experiments After learning the fundamentals, the members conduct more ad- vanced experiments in order to broaden their knowledge in this field. With adequate instruction, the members learn to care for and use the laboratory equipment. Oc- casionally, an objectional odor is emitted from the laboratoryg but the students do not mind, because the club members are, perhaps, on their way to becoming leading chemists in this scientific era. IN APPRECIATION The St. Marys Area High School Class of 1965 presents this page in appreciation to Mr. L. E. Whiteman, school board member for twenty-two years. In addition to raising a family and serving as Secretary of the Elk County Bank and Trust Company, Mr. Whiteman has devoted many hours to the improvement of our school facilities. While on the school board, Mr. Whiteman has promoted such programs as the jointure of the school districts, the additions to the schoolbuilding, and the improvements to Berwind Park. For these and for his other services, we express our sincerest gratitude. OUR HEROES Q i w Rxww ,sky B V Mr. Shipe, do you need all the bench? Mr. Lewis is always the center of attracuon.
