Each year one girl is chosen from the schools of the counties of New York to attend Girls' State. The purpose of this organization is to awaken in young women sincere convictions that are vitally needed to protect and preserve our American Democracy and our American Institutions. Sally Prevost is elected as a delegate from St. Mary's. As winner of the Elks National Foundation Youth Leadership Award, Ann Lafountain receives a $25 bond. 18 Rosina Bechard is awarded a Regents Scholarship. in the Hall of Fame Gloria LeClair proudly exhibits the pin she is awarded as the Future Homemaker of America. She won this honor through competitive ex- amination taken by all The Seniors of American high schools. Celine Racine receives a year's subscription to the Readers' Digest. Leeward Babbie is the winner of a $50 War Bond offered by Local 1065 International Association of Machinists to an all around student in the Senior class. The students that maintain all their marks above 95. 90 or 85 percent are listed on the Honor Roll. For the first semester, the successful pupils are: Pauline Beaudin, Catherine Wells, Dolores Hogle, Beatrice Bechard, Marianne Willett, Sally Prevost, Claudette Lepage. ■Each year a gold key of Our Lady of Wisdom is awarded for Scholarship, Loyalty and Achieve- ment. The lucky girl is Pauline Fecteau. James LeClair receives an award offered by the Danforth Foundation for demonstrating distinct qualities of leadership. A three-day closed retreat in St. John's, Quebec doesn't sound like a modern world investment, but to the Senior girls of St. Mary's, it proves to be a profitable treat to their souls. Mass begins each prayer-filled day and Benediction closes it in the solemn stillness of the Chapel. Back in our rooms, we jot down some essential advice that will help us in planning our future lives in the service of God and humanity. The society has for its primary purpose personal sanctification and the promotion of Catholic Action. Early in September fifteen sodalists enjoy and profit from the annual Sodality Institute which is held at Tupper Lake, N. Y. Interior life is the theme se- lected for the subject of the instructions. Flying the standards of truth At the Union district meetings everyone takes part in the group discussions which introduce you to many new friends and solve spiritual problems. 39 These pious candidates have finished the probation period and receive their medals. These Sodalists are practicing a spiritual work of mercy. Each week they motor to the Perry's Mills School to teach catechism. The Play is the thing — Plot . . . People appearing and disappearing, flashlights and guns, a secret doorway, sinister men and frightened women, counterfeit money and mysterious noises all help to create an atmosphere of suspense in this enjoyable mystery, MIDNIGHT. The Clinton County Interscholastic League Contest is always a high light in the department of dramatics. This year on April 5, THE DUMMY, a one-act comedy wins first place in a competitive program held among all the schools of the county.
