As we remove our white caps and gowns, we remember it all clearly. There we were, frightened freshmen, bewildered by a maze of seemingly unending classes, widely scattered classrooms, and seniors who teased or pampered us according to the hourly trend. As sophomores we were a little wiser but not quite enough to be noticed by the upper classmen. Our third year was a new experi- ence, as capable juniors, we organized a memorable Junior Day and were thrilled by the sparkle of the Sodality Ball. After three years of toil, we took our places in the calm of Lady Glen. Privi- leges, proms, and parties filled our senior year's recesses. Equipped with a Christian education, yet realizing our limita- tions, we now watch the future approach. As we evolve from yes- terday's youth into tomorrow's women, we hope to keep always before us the words taught us at Saint Mary's Academy, Deus llluminatio Mea . we 2 E 86 MARGARET AHUMADA FLORENCE A 1 5 LBANO KATHLEEN AMATO SHIRLEY ANDERSON Music 1,23 Choral 1,2 Chorql 1,2 Bend 4 Yrs' Clothing 4 Cl0fhir1g 3 Clofhgng 4 Offhssffo 4 WS- Sodality 4 yrs. In them, besides chem ponies, wrinkled candy wrappers, and battered books, are souvenirs that call to mind the activities of our junior year. lt will be hard to remove the tattered Daniel Freeman Hospital badge that identi- fied us as the hostesses for Junior Day, nevertheless it must accompany this limp pom-pom that cheered the green ties on to triumph. A frayed square of nylon tulle recaptures the excitement of the Sodolity Ball at the Deauville Club. The dilapidated remains of a corsage from the Junior-Senior Banquet, recalls that Spring day when we donned temporary sophistication. And this pencil, looking termite stricken, reminds us of that unforgettable two and a half hour chemistry final. One last junior treasure is the program of the seniors' graduation, reminding us that our day is close. gi N V f Wax: , .wU,.,,.,. of uw Lf Mai 4 mr' gf ff 1 Qi' was W Afife 529 wi-3 E S uv 9.5 ga N ,M 'E za I 8 W ,ii Q Q E Wg A E N V N' W fimw . vi Nwwkfwvawwfvgi . w2 1'??i xr , W. 4 5 , jk t 2511 xg, A -. in L , Him kk is , is Q . f H A ' L, SQ A K E, .. We had managed to get the green light at the intersections of geometry and Latin ll. With the help of our annual retreat we shifted into high gear and moved smoothly along, not forgetting to stop for sports, which kept us in shape for our trip. As we traveled along High- way S. M. A. we did everything possible to speed up the work ofthe Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital campaign. ln the midst of our journey we often had to stop and re- fuel, but steady prayer and hard work kept us at high speed helping us make good mileage. Now that our sopho- more year has come to an end, we will put our speedome- ters back to zero in the hope that in our junior year we will set new travel records. if xl F sl X 1 1 fi ..,.,-g.,f,,L :J I 1057 FIRST ROW: Silvia Anctil, Patricia Sedlak, Regina Podas, Marie Snider, Mary Ann Gariffo, Loretta Jacalone, Sandra Bauby, Joanne Manning, Irene Redmond, Virginia Gadden. HAT besides sugar and spice goes into a St. Mary's girl? Two of the essential ingredients are a large dose of spirit plus an additional amount of energy to carry her through everything from a Tidings drive to door to door soliciting for the Daniel Freeman Hospital. Lumbering trucks arriving to pick up papers from our paper drive, a screaming ambulance rushing to the scene of a simulated accident, heated discussions in stu- dent body meetings, practicing tor French, Latin, and Spanish plays are only a few ot the things a St. Mary's girl takes in stride between the hours of 8:30 to 3:00. A novel idea was the telegraph office which kept the campus buz- zing with inter-school communications. Queen for this year was the pride of the blue ties, Pat Doyle, who emphasized the theme, Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital, by reigning as our head nurse. To top off a stupendous Junior Day, the Aladdins present- ed two short comedies that unearthed the dramatic talents of the juniors. The combined generosity of all classes provided ample funds for the Red Cross and the Community Chest, plus this year's project, the Daniel Freeman Memorial l-lospital. We netted a thousand dollars for the purchase of a nursery to be called Holy Innocents in the name of the Junior Class of '53, Our Junior Day queen, Pat Doyle, in her costume of royalty-the nurse's cap and cape.
