With three sharp blows of a silver hammer, Our Holy Father unsealed a small door in Saint Peter's Basilica, and traditionally opened the Holy Year of l95O. By this simple yet significant ceremony, he directed new avenues of grace to refresh his children for the battle ahead, a battle for peace, and even more important-- a battle for God! We, daughters of Holy Mother Church, whose high school dag are over, are especially thankful for the timeliness of this year of special grace. We unite with Pope Pius Xll in praying that we may each do our share in leading the world back to Christ. ln token of our sincerity, we have selected the Holy Year as theme for the Illuminatio of l950. Our gratitude goes to the Faculty for making this theme doubly appropriate. Their untiring efforts to bring us a true appreciation of our Faith have made each year under their guidance one of spiritual growth and grace. lt is they who have made the Holy Year of l950 a fitting culmination for the holy years we have spent at Saint Mary's.
