Class Hlstory of 46 This history IS dedxeated to the members of the Class of 46 We hope some day It will reeall to us the events of our hlgh sehool life and aequalnt others who are lnterested with our dt.l'l1CVCIl1LDllS In the fall of 1941 vxe the present Semors entered upon the most memorable years of our l1ves Wlth ehildish glee and youthful pranks behlnd usUj we were ready to become d1gn1Hed high sehool freshmen and prepare for our life work As we entered the portals of St Marys Hlgh School our first dilheulty mathematles greeted us We suceeeded however 1D making x plus y equal an Algebra passing mark Durmg that momentous year Stupidity Persomfied beeame our password After eompletmg Ceneral Selenee Social Studies English and Latm I we concluded this 1n1t1al year and now felt equal to any task the Sopohmore ye lr might hold The second year passed qulekly as we struggled with and overeame all dlffieultles even Ceometry and Latln ll ln thls year the girls trled out for eheerleadlng 1n the hope of being ehosen junior Cheer leaders Unused to sueh exerelse these girls frequently arrlved the next morning st1ff and sore but happy Many amused glances were east at them by the other members of our elass The Catholle Basketball Tournament sponsored by our school was the most extraordlnary event of the Sophomore year Dur1ng our second year the girls organized a basketball league and lnter class games were played The season termlnated with a game against the girls of I. F H S in their gym ln September 1944 we assumed the role of upper elassmen Juniors at last' Our numerous class partles were occasions of great merrlment and were at least DOISY successes One of the most cherlshed beautlful slnglng of Father Dunn and amused by Chmk Riley and Rudy Cvitans original I'CDCl1t10I1 of Christmas Time Many amuslng lneldents occurred during th1s year Perhaps the climax was the day a certaln girl s Hnger got caught ln a hole ln her desk Amid laughs and chuckles she pulled and pulled finally extrlcatmg the finger The unlor year concluded with the umor Sen1or Prom to the muslc of Sammy Nlles and his orchestra Next came Class day held at the Palmer House in Herklmer In September 1943 the final year of high school long awaited arrived Plans for this year com menced early ln fall Our Hrst major event as Semors was the elect1on of class oflieers with Father Noonan presldlng Cffieers ehosen were Robert Reilly President Mary Modryan V1CCl,fLS1ClCI1t David Mahoney Treasurer and Natalie Shepardson Seeretary In October the upper elasses had 1 Welcome Freshmen party Various numbers were presented by the upper elassmen and refreshments were served by the junior girls Father Heenan and Father Cendron were each called upon for a short address Danclng terminated the party The Semors first soc1al undertaking was the Armistice Dance held November mnth We danced to the muslc of Lawrence Lulzzi s orchestra from Utica Everyone deemed thls event a grand success On December 19th we held what would be the final Chrlstmas Party we would attend as members of Salnt Mary s student body Refreshments entertamment and danclng were enjoyed by all the members of the class In january practically the entlre elass successfully surmounted the few remamlng scholastlc hurdles for graduat1on We then settled down to enjoy our well earned laurels full fledged Semors' The arrival of our class rings gave further prestige to our dignity as Semors With these I'1l1gS on our fingers graduatlon did not seem so far away The Senior Ball May 10 was the first such event ever held in Saint Mary s We were justly proud of this event and also of our Class Day held early ln June 1946 at The Manor MARY MALANEY NATALIE SHEPARDSON 18 ' 9 .
