Principal Guidance Religion IV Dear Graduates of the Class ot 83 Over the past several years you have worked and stocked, practiced and played, and grown - grown mentally as wel as physically - and now you are graduating, ready to begin your lives as members ot the adcit community For some of you this will mean a job and perhaps, shortly, the responstofcties of family living For others, graduation from SMA wil lead to coiege and further years of study and preparation Whatever course your future takes, it is my sivere hope that you will look back on your years at SMA as having prepared you to meet and deal with the chalenges that kfe wi present As you graduate, you become alumm and alumnae of SMA and join over one thousand other proud and dustnous graduates of this school I hope you wd always feel welcome to return to these hallowed hals. as an observer and visitor rather than as a participant You wd not fnd anyone who is gong to tel you to stop chewing gum or send you to the office for being late What you wd fnd. however, are memories, memories of standng at your locker and chatting with a grl fnend or boy friend, memories of the table where you ate lunch with the rest of the gang, memories of a classroom nodent, etc They are al here, these memories of the tine when this was your school Yet. n a very real sense, this std is your school You have become a part of it. as it has become a part of you. a fact that can never be erased I sincerely hope that as graduates you wd retan. ponder, use and share the Christian values that have been nstiled n you and to which you have been ex- posed while here at SMA Your years here have passed al too quKkty and before we invoke the worn-out cfcches about your now being ready to move on nto the world, let us savor for the moment some of what the SMA experience should mean to al of us The excelence of our high school is apparent n the quality of its academe pro- grams and n your accompkshments as reflected by so many of you going on to prestigious two-year and loci-year colleges, by the generous percentage of you receiving Regents Diplomas and Regents Scholarships And of this we are justly proud But more important, you and the faculty have had the opportunity to develop and share a concern for. a generosity toward one another m an at- mosphere of mutual respect and esteem that has been a tremendous learnng ex- perience for each of us We have shown our concern for one another by bertg sensitive to our common goals of quabty education fostered by a defeated facul- ty and enhanced by cooperative and eagar students The composte is the pro- duct of the contributions of both groups Our mutual concern has been further characterized by our availability to one another - faoity available to students and students giving the tme and talents to fetow-students and to the several extra-curricula r activities that fnd us together n the unique envionment that has been emchng for each of us Our concern for one another, as expressed n our wdingness to give of our abundance and talents to the less fortunate, has expanded to nclude those out- stde ur school whether they be the poor people n our neighborhood and area, or the elderly n Latham, or the exploited teenagers in New York City or the or- phaned and rejected children n lamaica. West Indies Hopefully this concern for others wd be a part of us as we wnd our way through Me In closing I share with you my prayer for you Whoever you are. be noble Whatever you do, do wel Whenever you speak, speak kndty Brmg KDY to wherever you dwel God Bless You’ Mr. Joseph Martelle Health, Science.
