NEW YORK 1 2090 518) 686-4314 Dear Graduates: First of all, I congratulate each of you on this milestone achievement in your lives. Each of you realizes what you have done to earn the honor of graduating from St. Mary's Academy. Some of you have made outstanding efforts and are graduating with honor; others have not achieved this distinction but have worked faithfully and diligently to be able to graduate with confidence. And then there are a few who have 'squeaked through' and these, I am sure, are graduating with great gratitude. To one and all, I extend congratulations on your success. I also commend your parents who have stood behind you during your high school years. They have made significant contributions to your well-being and education. In fact, they have enthusias- tically joined a century of Catholic parents who have sacrificed to enable their children to enjoy the blessings of a Catholic education. The whole enterprise of Catholic education is dis- tinctive by the element of sacrifice it has entailed. To your parents and families I say a special word of thanks for the sup- port that they have supplied and exhibited during your years at St. Mary's Academy. And now, you go forth - to college, to work - and you are swept up into the vortex of a continually changing world. I would hope that your high school experience has been meaningful and helpful in your continuation to grow in understanding your- self, in understanding your environment, in understanding the complexity of the society in which you live and work, and in understanding the people who contribute to that complexity. This understanding is at once a wondrous accomplishment and a wonder- ful challenge. It is the first step needed to lead a life in this world which can be full and significant, dedicated and valu- able . On a more personal note, I am grateful for your support and affirmation during this past year - your last year and my first year at St. Mary's Academy. It is not easy for me to see you go forth from St. Mary's Academy, for we have grown to be close friends, caught up in the same goals: your academic, spiritual and character development. And we have shared many joyful and moving moments and a tragedy. To each of you I say from my heart - GO FORTH and spread His word through your example and speech. God love you and keep you, THE CLASS OF 1981 WE GO TOGETHER' John Michael Crouse Gail M. Grindle Sandra Ann Haviland Mary Elizabeth Hayden David W. Heiner DAVID... As our high school days at S.M.A. come to a close, and we begin to plan our futures, one thing will always remain close to our hearts. The memory of you, David, and the happy times that we spent together. Someday we will all meet again in a happier place. We love you, The Class of'81 David M. Cuddihy Cud “Whenever we see your smilin’ face we have to smile ourselves, because we love you!” Facing Graduation Faces of old and faces of new People we know and people we knew, Growing together then drifting apart Always an ending and now a new start, At graduation we all grow nearer And all of our friends seem so much dearer, And as we say our final goodbye One last embrace and one more cry, A keep in touch and a promise I will A remember when but better still, A place in my heart you'll always stay That is what's said as we go our own way. Shari “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” John It’s better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.” Cu “Is a dream a lie if it don’t come true or is it something worse?” (Bruce Springsteen) Doodle-bug “Small people have the biggest hearts. Photographs and memories of times which passed my way. Sometimes when I’m thinking back, I wish those times would stay.” Mim “Life is short and we never have enough time for gladening the hearts of those who travel the way with us. Oh, be swift to love! Make haste to be kind.” 26 Gail “True friends are like diamonds, precious but rare. False friends are like autumn leaves, found everywhere.” Mary You should not judge a person by their cover, but only by what is deep down inside. Sandy “For memory has painted a perfect day, with colors that never fade. And we find at the end of a perfect day, the soul of a friend we’ve made. David “I’m rollin' thunder, power and rain. I’m cornin’ on like a hurricane. Bright lightnin' flashin’ across the sky, you’re only young but you always cry. AC DC Kim “Live your life well today, look back at yesterday and smile as you find happiness in the visions of tomorrow.” Jim Success is a reality, for all those trying there will be no denying.” Dottie “A task worth doing and a friend worth having makes life worth living.” Mull Because I’ve seen what I've seen, because I’ve been where I’ve been, I am who I am ... ME!” 28 Diane “The human spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it. Jamie “The only way to have a friend is to be one.” Patsy Hope for the best, be prepared for the worst, and take what comes with a smile.” Cathy If my mind can conceive it, and my heart can believe it, I know I can achieve it.” Margaret “Friendship isn’t something you ex- perience; it is something you remember.” Didi Hold fast to your dreams. Don’t part with your illusions. When they are gone, you may still exist, but you have ceased to live.” Paul “Don’t count the days, make the days count Peter I’m not afraid to face the light, I’m not afraid to seek truth in the night. I’m going nowhere fast, and my works of the day create my past.” 29 Bk if 0S1CK iailS Memories: EEKENDS pbdmniq cDonald!
