Almost one hundred years ago Catholics were a small minority in Hoosick Falls. As early as 1834, priests from Troy came to Hoosick Falls to say Mass for the Catholics. In 1862 the Augus- tinian Fathers were assigned to Immaculate Conception parish by John Cardinal McCloskcy who was Bishop of the Diocese of Albany. Father J. A. Darragh, O. S. A. , was the first pastor. In 1865 he was replaced by Father E. A. Dailey who served the parish until 1874. Today's parish- ioners can be grateful to Father Dailey whose faith and foresight were responsible for the build- ing of the present church. At the present time the parish is headed by the Very Reverend Charles E. Bauman, O. S. A. , pastor. His assistants are Father Lawrence J. Gcrrity, O. S. A. , Father Thomas R. Cook, O. S. A. , and Father Alfred Ellis, O. S. A. 8
