W fiwzdkzzzfyi Msvfaj Philadelphia has long been the scene of numerous historically important events. The year 1958 will long be remembered, for we Philadelphians are justly proud of the honor His Holiness Pope john XXIII bestowed on our beloved Archbishop O'Hara in elevating him to the rank of CARDINAL. An important date in the history of our Archdiocese will be the red letter day of November 16, 1958, the day that Our Holy Father recognized the eminent qualities of our Archbishop and raised him to the Sacred College of Cardinals. Under the benevolent guidance of Archbishop O'Hara, our Archdiocese has flourished and will continue to flourish as a vineyard whose master has tended it with loving care. Iiaeh and everyone of us at Saint Mary's extend heartfelt congratulations and offer prayers on your new appointment. That Our Divine I.ord will shower upon you every possible blessing in your future undertakings is the fervent prayer we offer for you-JOHN CARDINAL O'HARA. Our New Cardinal hurried home from Rome for his Annual Christmas Party for the afflicted and underprivileged children of the Archdiocese. Shown with him are three of his special guests. Nevertheless, each is determined to make our senior year an unforgettable and un- matchable milestone. We'w'e worked, played, and prayed together for four years now with the wonderful result that our senior class is 10021 Saint Mary's. The seasons rush by us, almost unnoticed, as senior year is filled to the peak with activity. Time passes all too quickly and soon it is june. Saint Joseph smiles lovingly over our campus through summer, fall, winter, and spring. This same campus which has been the scene of their four fun-packed years, today, witnesses the return of Barbara, Mickey, and Ann to sing once more our beloved Blue and Gold . Today, however, they stand as postulants of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. The Father of Jesus, under whose guidance they have flourished and grown into true Saint Mary's girls, smiles even more lovingly on them now. He is justly proud and happy that three of our graduates have chosen the path to the utmost in earthly happinessg namely, that of giving themselves entirely to Him as Sisters of Saint Joseph. JOANNE WINK June 1 1941 May 25, 1956 REQIJIESCLT IN PACE Dear Joanne: Tonight all nature sings with the untold beauty of the season's first snowfall. Our street, with its newly fallen white blanket and icy frosted trees, really reminded me of a Winter Wonderland as I walked home from mailing a letter. In your heavenly Kingdom of Kingdoms , we are quite sure that you are supremely happy. And, somehow, tonight with the inky blackness of the sky and the bridal white of the earth, both sprinkled with about a million and one of 'the crowning jewels-your loving stars and moonbeams-I could not help but think that I was experiencing Just a Little Bit of Heaven. Now, looking out at the snow and stars, I sit in my room and find it so very easy to pen my thoughts to you. Father Time marches on and we can scarcely believe that it will be three years, come May twenty-fifth, that you left us to retire to your Eternal Peace . I guess retire isn't exactly fair to you, Joanne. After all, we realize that being special guardian to our class isn't any easy task. We know that you have always been with us from winning our coveted possession the Cup to our Proms. Perhaps, when we felt your presence most was in our daily visits to chapel. Since you have spiritually shared every minute of our beloved days at S.M.A. with us, we would like you to be the PILOT on a tour of our life at St. Mary's . Yes, we the class of nineteen hundred and fifty-nine are truly honored to have you, our Special Angel, before the Throne of the King and Queen of the Universe. With this I close, Joanne, for I know that this is a letter that I need not mail, because, with a whispered prayer to you, it will sail far above our own Milky Way, through myriads of stars, through night and day. I know, Joanne, from now on you will continue to protect the class of 'S 9, your class and mine.
