PARKLING tinsel, glowing lights, happy voices-all herald Christmas at St. lVlary's. ln the marble foyer undergraduates gather around a ina- iestic tree, decorated by the Seniors. From the stately staircase the latter, holding lighted candles, lead the tradi- tional ceremony ot caroling. Each year the undergraduates present a pageant ot the eternal and wondrous story. This Christmas in Company with Pilgrims to Bethlehem, we traversed the Judean hills to witness once again the eyer-ten- der and lovely drama ot God's loye for man. Viola Wattis, as the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Jane Corey, Peggy McCafferty and Peggy O'Hara, as angels, dramatize the first Noel. As the herald angels, Dolores Bedesem, Peggy McCafferty, Marie Reilly and Rita Boyle an- nounce the' glad tidings to Marie Bittel and Teresa Finegan, shepherds. Gloria in excelsis sing the angelic host, Fran- cis Grubb, Patricia Conley, Marjorie Gallagher, Jane Corey, Maria Haines, Rita Boyle, Ann Donahue, Clare McMahon, Marie Reilly, Mary Maloney, and Dolores Bedesem. Shepherds Barbara Martin, Julia Mundry, Nancy Meehan, and Jane McCoffrey listen with reverent awe to the herald angels. Standing on the staircase with lighted tapers in hand, the Seniors lead the caroling for the undergraduates gathered around the Christmas tree as pictured in the circles,

DHISU lllHE lIlllllES lll llllllll ATHEMATICALLY speaking, pon-bans plus ice cream, plus merriment, plus a play equals a Freshman Day at St. lvlary's. As city slickers, the Sophomores initiated and entertained their country cousins, the Freshmen, with their version ot a Broadway hit. Put an eccentric uncle, a grasping family, an innocent maid, and a statue into one plot, mix vvell, and you have the Sophomares' mem- orable and tarcical concoction, Carnoutlage, Outfitted in their Sunday-best the Freshman blushingly gave a stunt-by-request floor show during retreshrnents, With the melody ot the school sang the party ended, the Freshmen happy in their acceptance as one ot us, Upper Group: Frances Wambold offers her interpretation of u Dawg Patch beauty. When farmers like Margaret Mary Collins, Jean Leidy, Grace Peterson, Jaan Collins, Eileen Beierschmitt, Mary Eleanor Fritz, Mary Martin, Joan Franz, and Irene Anderson come to town, what fun they have! With her daughters, Betty McKee, Julia Mudry, Maria Haines and Juliana McKee, Clare McMahon, as Mrs. Mc- Jerrald, discusses household finances, Kitty Wilkinson, as Mrs. Montmorency, the village gazette, creates consternation by announcing Uncle Jacob's impending arrival. Lower Group: lf this were Sadie Hawkin's Day, it's nineteen to one that Lil' Abner would be the laser. After Sally breaks Uncle Jacob's museum piece, Mrs, Mc- Jerrold develops hysterics as her daughters plot a solution of their disaster. Loretta Daly, as Sally the maid, under dire threats of the McJerrold daughters, poses as Uncle Jacob's statue. The McJerrold family watch Sally with tense and threatening attitudes while Uncle Jacob inspects the statue. Thirty
