llllElil1lllVtll lHlillUliH llll H RAINING for democracy is a favorite slogan of educators today, and in com- mon with all other Catholic schools, St. iViary's holds that religion is the basis of morality, and morality, the foundation of good citizenship, Into a war-maddened world where atheistic and immoral ideas prevail, our school sends forth its graduates, fortified by a sound Catholic education wherein they learn to render to Caesar the things that are Coesar's and to God the things that are Gods To that end, our school strives to make religion not merely a creed to be believed but a faith to be practiced. From the tots in kindergarten to the Seniors, she infuses a spirit of active faith that proves itself by charity toward fellow-men and by striv- ing for personal integrity. Under the guid- ance of the Sisters, the children in the lower grades learn the fundamental doc- trines ofthe Church and little practices of self-discipline that mould sturdy charac- terse Older students are led to develop these basic ideals, to see the importance of re- ligion in relation to daily life, and to share these inspirations with those less fortu- nate. As future citizens of a great de- mocracy, they make every effort to strengthen their moral fiber, realizing that a nation rises or falls to the level of its citizens. These high ideals of religion and moral- ity implanted at First Communion are nurtured by daily lvlass and by member- ship in Our l.ady's sodality, by retreats, by monthly instructions given by Rev. Anthony J, Flynn, DD, PhD., until graduation yields fruit worthy ofa Catholic education. The graduating class greets Reverend Charles B. McGinley, pastor of Holy Child Church, on the occasion of his silver jubilee, after the Mass cele- brated by him to mark the close of their days at St. Mary's.
