St. Mary's basketball team wound up a remarkable season with five wins and one loss. lt got off to a good start by defeating St. Peter and Paul of Iamestown by a score of 24-l9. Although trailing at the end of the first half, good teamwork and superb playing spelled victory for the lrish lassies. The girls met their next opponents on the home court and once again came out on top with a score of 29-18. The lrish topped Mt. St. Mary's of Kenmore throughout the first two quarters to lead l8-8 at half time. Second half action showed the S. M. A. squad still out- scoring their foes. St. Marys sextet invaded Buffalo opposing their arch rivals, Mt. St. Ioseph's. Although the S. M. A.'ers fought hard they came out on the losing end of a 20-19 score. St. Mar'y's next met the undefeated team of Sacred Heart of Eggertsville. Playing at home, the S. M, Afers defeated them 37-36 in a thrilling game. The Varsity beat St. Marys of Lancaster by a score of 37-2l. St. Mary's layvee team started out on the wrong foot by losing to Our Lady of Loretta of Falconer with a score of 39-22. The layvee team made up for this loss by topping its Kenmore opponents 26-l4. Once again the S. M. A. Iayvee met with bad luck when they lost to the Mount by one point. In the return encounter with Mt. St. loseph's, the Varsity and Iayvee teams avenged the earlier double defeat. Varsity won by a score of 26-15, Iayvee's 22-lO. Lois Mancino, Varsity captain and high scorer in each game, amassed a total of 96 points in the 6 games. 1655!
