STORY OF THE PLAY Quiet Summer is a fast-moving, rollicking comedy with an interesting and amusing theme. In this play it is summer. And james Clark, lawyer, has hopes of spending it in peace and serenity, concentrating on getting elected president of his country-club-knowing that this will be the first step toward winning his race for District Attorney in the fall. But the best laid plans of men who are uncles often go astray. And james is an uncle. His sister, Lillian, and her husband want a summer away from Pamela, 17, and Sonny, 15, so the kids arrive from New York to stay with Uncle Jimmie. In the course of three uproarious acts Uncle Jimmie learns about the younger generation-the hard way. Pamella and Sonny, work- ing at break-neck speed, get involved in romantic falmost maritalj adventures: they all but smash .Iames's happy romance, they turn his home into a combina- tion rumpus-room and campaign-headquartersg and they manage to learn a few things themselves. All this is presented in a swift and humorous manner, complete with surprises, to make Quiet Summer a hilarious comedy.
