4 ---1 DEDICATION With their mother, Mrs. H. Clark Boyd, Cindy and Cathy enioy a leisurely visit in Providence Park. Saint Mary's has a sacred word, oft repeated, constantly implored. It encompasses our life-giver, watchful guardian, our exemplar, our goal. It is enhanced by the protectress of our Sisters. ln its most glorious meaning we apply it to the instrument of sacred faith. In iubilation or desperation we direct to it our fervent entreaties. In its pertinent and much-loved sense it is extended to the Woods itself. As we substitute an influence of love, faith and direction For the incarnate possessor of these qualities, We begin a new relationship. Somewhere in the green haze of freshman beginnings we realize our Daughtership. Suddenly in the poignancy of senior culminations we bear testimony to the contributions of We place our LES BOIS of fun and fact and fantasy in the hands of Our Lady of the Campus. A lone figure stands, pink-tinged in the special hour. Curved sunrays slide over green-black water X l and bend around an ancient tree. The whirr of moth wings is swallowed by the silence. Skirt rustling softly, she bends to snatch a pebble. A flash of black and gold, and then the pebble drops to obscurity. The hand rests inert again on the down of grass. l' V But the startled water must react to this awakening. Liquid murmurs reach into the atmosphere. Rapid circles grow, as if from seed carried by the pebble. Soon the reflection of the arched bridge is altered. The reeds, shore-bound, are nudged into motion. Plants ringing the water are moistened by the ever-widening ripples. Cautiously the shadow of a girl glides over blue-black soil, slips across a tree root and disappears in a shower of amethyst light. She is oblivious. She does not perceive the water powerless to resist the effects of her impulse. IZ' P gi-fy' c
