97111122 Our cguperzor Dear Girls, In the Book of Proverbs there is a passage used as a Lesson in the Mass of a Holy XVoman which seems significant to the theme of your MARYCREST this year. To me, it glorifies the woman who is most blessed and builds up the actual substance of womanhood rather than only the shadow-the beauty of her soul rather than the beauty of her body. It reads: XY'ho shall find a valiant woman? Far and from the uttermost parts of the earth is the price of her. The heart of her husband trusteth in her . . . She shall render him good and not evil all the days of her life . . . strength and beauty are her clothing . . . She hath opened her mouth to wisdom, and the law of mercy is on her lips . . . Her children rose up and called her blesseclg her husband praised her. The benedicite that God bestows on woman here described is a sure analysis of His de- signs for you now and in the years to come it you walk in her ways. It approximates best the role of womanhood as an inspiration, Take away the inspiration of wife or mother or sister and you not only lessen the quality of man's achievement but you render it fruit- less and barren. You cannot find the same stature of King Louis without Blanche of Castileg of Constantine without Helena, or of Benedict without Scholastica. We may even go far enough to say that we could not have Christ without Our Lady, for had she with- held consent to be His mother, Christ would not have lived on this earth nor died on the cross in redemption of our sins. Thus, through Mary woman was blessed for all time and for all eternity with the sublime marks of her place in the destiny of the world. May God mark each of you with the blessedness of a Valiant Woman and give you great happiness always. Faithfully yours, SISTER MARIE DE LOURDES, C.S.C. ,.W,r.
