Foreword Doors are strange and .vonderful thlngs They are more than pst mot aole panels 1n walls lead1ng us from one place to another, more than mcr p1eces of decoratlve handlwork fashloned to del1ght the eye they are obj cts of great slgnlfxcance 1n our hves The doors of the Church, huttmg out the outslde world and leavmg us alone w1th God the doors to our home lea hng, us to a haven of Joy and contentment the doors to Amer1ca offerlng refuge to those who seek freedom all these doors are symools of the wonderful hfe God has glven us But the doors wh1ch are, perhaps, opened more often cher1shed w1th more devot1on, and endowed nth more memomes than any other doors 1n our l1V8S, are the doors to our school To the t1ny SIX year old on h1s f1rst ven ture through the grade school doors, they r1se before h1m as sometnmg mys ter1ous, 1nv1t1ng h1m to explore the secrets beyond them To the t1morous freshman, str1d1ng Wlth a show of confldence through the 1mpos1ng doors of h1gh school, they are symbols of the maturlty for wh1ch he wxll strlve 1n the four happlest years of h1s l1fe To the senlor maklng h1s last Journey through the school doors w1th shy prlde and nervous dlgmty, they are the d1v1d1ng l1ne between carefree youth and respons1ble adulthood and the last of the fam1l1ar objects to wh1ch he must say goodbye 1n a shaky, lovlng voxce In ttus book we have tr1ed to open a few of our most memorable doors If beh1nd these doors IS found a record of the honors we have attalned a memory of those who taught us and those who learned w1th us a p1cture of a fr1end or the memento of a speclal occaslon, an 1nc1dent or cene of an eventful year 1f these pages can but transfer to permanence memor1es that would otherwlse d1m and fade then, the 1957 Rustxc wxll have fulfllled 1ts purpose as a chromcle of the progress of St Mary's and the ach1evements of her students 3 X .
