Through the Silver Years With humility that ever accompanieth wisdom, with vigor and courage worthy of a disciple of Christ, with undaunted spirit and with an abiding faith in the eflicacy of prayer, the Reverend John Gilmary Cook, LL.D., ten years ago began the arduous work of building and organizing the Parish of St. Mary of Redford. Since that day, into the silvery mists of time, a decade of years has passed. Our beauteous basilica, consecrated to the Mother of God, our well- equipped school, dedicated to the training of youth, and a spiritual and material progress most worthy of note have sprung from his energy and devotion. Ten years of Father Cook's Priesthood have been ours. The first fifteen were spent in Reese and Mt. Clemens. There, as here, the parishes were made happy by his presence and made better by his ardent Priestly zeal. There is, there can be, no question as to the success of Father Cook's mission in St. Mary of Redford Parish. Dreams made actuality through strenuous work have taken form in the growth of the Church and the buildings that stand as monuments to his labors. What the future holds no man may know. We can but express the sincere hope that the years to come may find him, as now, our guide, directing us on Virtue's pathway. JoHN HALLMAN, '29 Page Sixteen 5
