Two new classes have been added to the elective schedule - band and choir. This first year program was created to meet the needs of those students who displayed talents either instrumentally or vocally, These classes provide students with the opportunity to involve themselves with music both during school and afterwards, in practice and perfor- mance. The band performs at the football and basketball games, as well as several concerts throughout the year. The choir leads the student body at Mass, and has performed at many campus functions. Sports The 1981 Eaglet football team enjoyed a very successful and rewarding season. After heartbreaking defeats in two of their first three games, the Eaglets exploded on a six game winning streak, which concluded with a victory at the Silverdome. The Eaglets defeated D Division Champions Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard by a score of 15-14 for the C-D Division Championship. The Eaglet team was powered the entire season by its defense. The Eaglets led Oakland County in defense, by allowing only six points in league play, and outscoring their opponents 235-6, The defense was led by senior Carl Pellegata, who collected 146 tackles on the season, and was voted All- State for his efforts. The Eaglets also named seven players to the All-League team, and four of them were named to the All-Catholic squad. Although the Eaglets are graduating a lot of seniors, coach Al Dicken is very confident, and has his eyes set on another trip to the Silverdome next year. avi' This years j.V. football team succeed- ed to master a perfect season with a record of 8-0. The promising Eaglets were led by Co-captains Dave Chwalibog and jeff Petrucci. As expected, the long, hard practice hours in Oak Ridge payed off. ln their first race, the Eaglets captured the state title in a regatta at Wyandotte on the Detroit River. Following the Wyandotte regatta, the Eaglets began preparing for the National Cham- pionships which were being held in Middletown, Delaware. The Eaglet oarsmen finished second in their qualifying heat and were then able to ad- vance to the finals. In the finals at Middletown, the first year Eaglet crew surprised everyone by finishing fourth in the nation. This year, the Eaglets have set their sights on a National Championship, and a possible trip to England for the Queen's Cup Regatta. 46 Lf f V S. Class Colors: Maroon and Gold Class Flower: White Rose Class Motto: So little done - so much to do. Cecil lohn Rhodes Class Song: Independence Day Well Papa, go to bed now it's getting late, nothing we can say is gonna change anything now. I'll be leaving in the morn- ing from St. Mary's Gates. We wouldn't change this thing even if we could somehow. There's a darkness in this house that got the best of us. There's a darkness in this town that's got us too, but they can't touch me now, and you can't touch me now. They ain 't gonna do to me what I watched them do to you. So Say goodbye, It's Independence Day, It's Independence Day, it's Independence Day, in this town. Now I don't know what always was with us, we choose the words, and yea we drew the lines. There was just no way this house could hold the two of us. I guess that we were just too much of the same kind. Well say goodbye, it's Independence Day, it's Independence Day, all boys must run away. So say goodbye, it's In- dependence Day. AII men must make their way, come Independence Day. Now the rooms are all empty down at Frankies joint. And the highway, she's deserted clear down to breaker's point. There's a lot of people leaving town now, leavin their friends, their homes, at night they walk that dark and dusty highway all alone. Oh Papa go to bed now it's gettin late,' nothing we can say can change anything no w. It is just as the different people comin' down here now and they see things in different ways. And soon everything we've known will just be swept away. So say goodbye, it's Independence Day. Papa, now I know the things you wanted, but you could not say, but won 't you just say goodbye, it's Independence Day. I swear I never meant to take those things away.
