Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that any one who fled to thy protection, implared thy help or sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto thee. O Virgin of virgins and Mother, to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful, O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, hut in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen. We Warian pfeden-fe! we jzniord of nf Warp Shoo! remonf, nw .yamlaakire Reverend Iohn I. McCarthy lt is with deep gratitude and affection that the Class of l959 dedicate-s this edition of The Marian to our beloved pastor, Father McCarthy, who gave himself completely to a labor of love, the new St. Mary High School. As we walk down the corridor of our Senior year the walls seem mirrored, but wait - this is no ordinary mirror, its reflections come from the past, our past! Look! There we are, our first day in S.M.H. lust think, four years ago- We were in high school at last, lowly Freshmen it is true, but still in high school. Green Carpet Day really put us in solid. We all carried huge banners and sang the glories of our mighty Seniors. It was a day of fun for all and we felt that now our class and St. Mary's l-ligh were one. The Freshman Reception gave the Sophomores a chance to assert themselves and the blindfolded Freshman girls counted worms with many a screech and grimace. The power of sug- gestion was proven when the girls removed the blindfolds and discovered, not worms, but cold, cooked spaghetti. The Freshman year rolled along smoothly while we fought to master algebra and science. ln Latin class we read tales of Caesar, I came, I saw, I conquered. It should happen to us! September, l956, brought with it a new prestige. Green Freshmen became Sophomores and the change was very ap- parent, at least to us. Cur first big project, the Freshman Reception, was a memorable affair. Freshmen were duly welcomed and every- one danced in the splendor of Autumn Leaves. As Sophomores, we had Fathers Lamothe, Griffin, and La- croix as religion teachers. We shall always remember their kind efforts to make good Catholics of us during these past three years. In them we realize teachers, counselors, and friends. A new project was in the air this year. St. Mary's was to have a new high school! Every student was thoroughly excited and Sophomores were no exception. Being the first double class in S.M.H., we knew full well that the present school would not be adequate much longer. Iolly Iuniors awoke in September 1957, to find that half their high school days had flown by. Time, however, was not spent looking back, for this was to be a busy year. For beautiful cards and colorful wrap, see the Iuniors! Come one, come all! was heard through the building and Iuniors turned salesmen to build up the weak treasury. We did well on the sale and hopes were once again high. Prom time was just around the corner and the Iunior home- rooms were buzzing with excitement. Angel's wings were tinted and gold foil transformed a plain wood fence into an earthly replica of the Golden Gates. When the big night dawned, the whole effect of Almost Paradise was satisfactorily achieved and everyone went home with stardust in his eyes. The Prom was now a happy memory but we were already on the wings of another project. The Class of '58 had their morning meal served in style at the annual Communion Breakfast as the delicious aroma of ham and eggs filled the Gym. As the last plate was scraped clean and well-fed smiles were seen all around the table, we thanked Heaven that another of our undertakings had come off suc- cessfully. Finally, our Senior year came. This was to prove the most exciting year of all. Why? Because this year marked the open- ing of our new St. Mary High School. Proper ceremonies pre- ceded our first march down the corridors and into our classrooms. The school year had begun. Within a few days the first class project as Seniors was underway. We were to work at a chicken barbecue during St. Mary Week. The rain that Sunday was relentless but our spirits were waterproof. The election of officers and Student Council members really started the ball rolling. This year, the one-year-old Student Coun- cil campaigned for the student body election of officers. The first big undertaking the Senior Class of '59 encountered was the Christmas Formal, the first of its kind in St. Mary. Plan- ning and decorating this project involved hard work and fun. Then, on December 27, couples danced to the music of the Silhouettes in a snow enchanted gymnasium. We are now in the midst of preparations of the Senior play, At the End of the Rainbow. We hope, with all sincerity, that it will go over big. A-s we look into our mirror and attempt to visualize what Iune 1959 will bring, it seems to cloud. We can only see shadows of figures in caps and gowns. Only june itself can clarify the picture. Ioyce Prud'homme 362 WUC!! fo OUP .NQHFL5 Mrs. Palmer, Mrs. Lambert cmd Mrs. Lalfountuin. We line up .M We are served. We eat. ,V,..,,, Who cleans up? No girls? jimi lunar eunion This is the Claremont National Broadcasting System, Robert Guynup reporting. We take you now to Little Cape Canaveral, better known as St. Mary High School, where the Class of '59 gather for the first class reunion in history that will take place 'on the Moon. This is a thrilling day indeed. The gleaming blue and white spotlights and the television cameras of the Victor Bergeron Incorporated Studios focus on the gigantic silver space ship, the USS SAINT MARY'S. The sur- rounding crowd consists almost entirely of the graduates of the Class of '59. Porters, Nelson Picard and Richard Latouche, are kept busy loading the baggage and talking on the side to Gloria Limoges and Corinne Carreiro, two of the charming passengers. The congenial stewardesses, Ioanne Beebe, Brenda Clark, Claire Potvin, and Theresa Marchand, check the guest list and assemble with the crew, Roger Lacasse, Octave Paquette, and Nelson La- plante. Suddenly, from behind the controls, the booming voice of Ioel Belaire is heard above the commotion. Last call for the Moon, he says, Three, two, one . . . BLAST OFF! The silver giant rises from the ground under the skillful hand of Paul Bonneville, commander-in-chief. Louis Cloutier relaxes in his seat. By almost missing the take-off he had delayed flight, but everyorle readily forgave him. This is Gloria Morin, your roaming reporter, reporting the goings-on from outer space. Practically the whole Class of '59 is here in the USS SAINT MARY'S as it clears a path through the stars. Deanna Nichols, Mary Ferland, and Carolyn Morin watch the world go by from the port-holes. Oh my stars, the passengers seem quite disturbed. We almost hit a speeding ob- ject! . . . ls it a meteor, a shooting star, or a comet? No, only David Eno and Harold Goodrich in their jet-propelled Iaguar, the ter- rors of the milky way. I Reckless drivers, mutters Paul, Don't they know that the speed limit is only a hundred thousand miles a minute on this super highway? The blaring sirens of Iane Fleury's space patrol is heard as she gathers her space cadets, Lillian Therriault and Frances Boucher, for the chase. Man your rockets, cosmic cats, She is heard saying, be- cause if it is excitement they want, by Iupiter, we'l1 drag them to Pluto! l ! ! The pert voice of Maria Mercier is heard above the commo- tion. Fasten your safety belts please. The surface of the moon lgreen cheesel, is visible through the port-holes. Coming in for a landing! I As they descend the gang plank, they are greeted by the Moon Government, President Iosette Gaudreau and Vice Presi- dent Nancy Buinicky, along with Miss Moonbeam, Marion Des- coteau, the former Miss Claremont. After having been given the key to the planet, they pile into buzzmobiles and head toward the picnic grounds for their reunion. Cn the way they stop to get an atomic fizz at Michael Descoteau's Super Sweet Shop, then they continue on their way. Ahead looms the laboratories of the greatest scientist in the universe, lerome Morin, whose latest achievement is a Ll-IAGABGMSBABLH, just what we've always wanted. His next project will be the difficult task of fig- uring out what his last project is. At the picnic grounds they find Andre Carter, Phillip Morin, and Donald Eerland, still known as the comets, tossing satelites through the hoop. Sandra Coulombe, Denise Arel, and Yvette Moody, who are persuing their careers as secretaries here, pinch hit as caterers. There is Mary Biron, the famous auizz master of What's My Solar System? conversing with contestant, Gloria Baron. They spot another familiar face. Why, it's Patricia Rogers, distinguished as the first bride of the Moon. It looks as though they are the first in everything and have been right from the start. Millionaire Norman Lessard, discusses economic condi- tions with financier, Ioyce Prud'homme. Robert Rivard and Muriel, the first family on the Moon, waste no time in turning their tribe of kiddies to Marilyn Morin who runs a baby sitting agency. Teaching the three Rs, Rocket Ships, Romance, and Rock n' Roll, professors, Iacqueline Hamel and Claire Lataille, claim to be experts in their field. The medics, Dr. Michael Boivin and Dr. leannine Grenier rush in, still clothed in their operating regalia. They explain that they had no time to change, emer- gency case, it seems the space patrol caught up with a couple of speed demons and there was quite a bit of fireworks. Any ideas as to who they could have been? They are followed by Annette Boisvert, Mary Caron, and Cecile Perron, competent nurses. Someone's missing! Let's call the airport and check on late arrivals. Number please? a pleasant voice asks. lt's Anne Garneau, the head of the Bell Telephone System on the Moon. From the airport, we learn that a U.S. Government rocket ship has just landed, possibly carrying the missing links. Yes, they are right. The former Miss Doreen Bourgoine enters on the arm of her multi-billionaire husband. Another arrival is Lillian Hanson, well known columnist of the syndicated Daily Star. Sorry we are late, they explain, We stopped to take in the show One Touch of Venus. starring Carmel Nadeau. She'll be along soon. Miss Susan Girard plays the school song on the atomic or- gan. The class rises, their eyes filling with tears at the old fa- miliar strains of Cheer, Cheer for Saint Mary High. The toast- master, Donald Gilbert gives the invocation. May we always possess the happiness and contentment which we have enjoyed in our years at Saint Mary's, he says, May her dear lessons remain always with us, as do our cher- ished memories, and may GOD BLESS US, EVERYONE. lane Fleury and Lillian Hanson NN en . cor x ' -. 0' X 9 K 09 2 619006 C ened Q0 0109 'K Xe'-We xxeivixo cos 0 en for cened L ii 1 5 L, gym QQ It's no trouble at all.
